Commanders vs 49ers Odds, Picks, Predictions, and Player Props for MNF Week 6
Kody Malstrom breaks down the Monday Night Football matchup between the Commanders and 49ers from a betting perspective, including picks, predictions, and a player prop bet on Rachaad White.
While all eyes were on the Los Angeles Rams and Seattle Seahawks, the San Francisco 49ers have been able to take sole possession of first place in the NFC West after a 5-0 start to the year. With Washington on deck, the 49ers have a great opportunity to extend their win streak by throwing over the top of a secondary that struggles in coverage.
Washington Commanders vs San Francisco 49ers Betting Odds For Week 6
- Spread: 49ers -7.5 (-105, BetMGM)
- Moneyline: 49ers (-420, Caesars)
- Game Total: 52 (Over -112/Under -108, Caesars)
Even when dealing with a slew of injuries, the 49ers have been able to brush aside regression en route to a hot start to the year. Brock Purdy’s ascension has played a major role in the 49ers' success this season, leaping up to first in QB EPA per play and in success rate.
Heading into Monday night’s contest against the Commanders, Purdy will continue to thrive by picking apart a secondary that resides in the bottom half of the board in dropback EPA allowed per play. When the Commanders defense is forced to stretch out, Christian McCaffrey’s running lanes will widen, increasing his chances of generating an explosive play on the ground.
To make matters worse for the Commanders, San Francisco has also been playing at a high level on defense, making it difficult to keep pace on the scoreboard. Oddsmakers are in agreement with that sentiment, listing the 49ers as high as -7.5 to cover the spread.
Prediction & Pick For Washington Commanders vs San Francisco 49ers Week 6 Matchup
- The Pick: Commanders Team Total u21.5 (-110, BetMGM)
In his first game back from injury, Jayden Daniels was able to quickly shake off the rust, throwing for 199 yards while completing 68% of his passes. Daniels was also able to hit the ground running, gashing the New York Giants' front seven for another 103 yards while punching in two scores with his legs.
Unfortunately for Daniels, the Commanders QB will struggle to build on his momentum against San Francisco while weaving the ball through a secondary that excels in coverage, per the 49ers' top-5 mark in dropback success rate. The 49ers will also be able to consistently collapse the pocket by attacking an offensive line that ranks 28th in pass block grade, forcing Daniels to get the ball out of his hands shortly after the snap.
While Daniels' elite running ability normally applies pressure to any opposing front seven, the 49ers' tendency to anchor LBs across the middle will neutralize his legs, holding the Commanders QB to minimal gains on each carry. When the Commanders are held comfortably behind the line to gain, their probability of converting plummets.
When the offense is held to an early out, the Commanders will struggle to get the ball back in Daniels' hands while trying to bottle up a 49ers offense that leads the league in DVOA and in EPA per play. With less time on the field, Washington’s total number of possessions on offense will decline, keeping the Commanders under the team total.
Best Player Prop Bet For Washington Commanders vs San Francisco 49ers
Rachaad White - Longest Rush u12.5 Yards (-107, DraftKings)
After struggling to find his footing in Tampa Bay, Rachaad White has continued to underwhelm in Washington, ranking in the bottom 10 in yards over expected per attempt. While White’s struggles stem from his inability to fight off contact, the protection the Commanders RB receives from the offensive line has also done him no favors, running behind a front five that ranks 27th in run block grade.
Even with San Francisco giving up ground due to the lack of bodies in the trenches, the 49ers' clogged second level will slow White down once he gets past the line of scrimmage, holding the Commanders RB under the total on his longest rushing prop. The Commanders are also expected to play from behind per the current spread, leading to a pass-heavy game script that will chip away at White’s total number of carries.
