Even though the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles have underwhelmed six games into the season, Monday night’s matchup between the two still has plenty to look forward to, with the winner securing an edge over the other in the playoff standings. While it may not be an elimination game, it’s hard to fathom how the loser will make up ground in a loaded conference.

Philadelphia Eagles vs Dallas Cowboys Betting Odds For Week 7

  • Spread: Cowboys -4.5 (-108, DraftKings)
  • Moneyline: Cowboys (-205, DraftKings)
  • Game Total: 44.5 (Over -102/Under -118, Bet365)

After making an effort to re-tool the defense in the offseason, the Cowboys' additions to that side of the ball have yet to pan out, ranking near dead last in DVOA. With the defense struggling to play at a competitive level, the Cowboys are forced to play in highly volatile contests, lowering the probability of winning.

While the Cowboys' slow start to the year can be attributed to the defense, the Eagles have yet to get into a groove, with the offense dealing with an abundance of injuries. With Jalen Hurts out for the remainder of the season, Philadelphia will turn toward Tanner McKee, handicapping the Eagles' ceiling.

Barring a sudden turnaround from McKee, oddsmakers believe this is a get-right spot for Dallas, listing the Cowboys as high as -4.5 before kickoff. Bettors, on the other hand, believe we may be in for a defensive slugfest, steaming the under down to 44.5 after opening at 48.5.

Prediction & Pick For Philadelphia Eagles vs Dallas Cowboys Week 7 Matchup

  • The Pick: Cowboys -4.5 (-108, DraftKings)

In his first start under center, McKee underwhelmed, limping into Week 7 ranked below league average for the position in EPA per play, CPOE, and success rate. With McKee struggling to air out the ball, the Carolina Panthers were able to stack the box and bottle up Dameon Pierce, holding the Eagles RB to just 2.9 yards per carry.

With DeVonta Smith and Dontayvion Wicks already ruled out of Monday night’s contest against Dallas, it’s tough to envision how McKee will be able to stretch the field, allowing the Cowboys to shade bodies to the middle. Stopping the run has been a major issue for Dallas this season, with the front seven ranking 24th in rush EPA allowed per play.

With positive regression looming over the Cowboys defense, Dak Prescott will have a great opportunity to set a scoring pace too fast for the Eagles to keep up with while picking apart a secondary that resides in the bottom half of the board in dropback success rate. With Philadelphia’s back end struggling to hold opposing pass catchers in front of the sticks, Prescott will be able to methodically move the ball down the field, controlling the time of possession in the process.

While I normally preach the importance of betting on key numbers, there is still some meat left on the bone at -4.5, making the Cowboys worth a wager to cover the spread.

Best Player Prop Bet For Philadelphia Eagles vs Dallas Cowboys

Javonte Williams - Longest Rush o13.5 Yards (-115, Bet365)

Not only has the Eagles' secondary struggled to defend against the pass, but the front seven has been consistently gashed on the ground, ranking in the bottom five in rush EPA allowed per play and in success rate. That's a stunning performance with Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis manning the middle of the line, yet the Eagles' inability to make contact at the line of scrimmage makes it difficult to slow down opposing RBs before they reach the second level.

With CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens pulling the Eagles LBs to the outside, Javonte Williams' running lanes in the middle will widen, increasing his chances of creating an explosive play once he bursts out of the trenches. The Cowboys are also expected to play with a lead per the current spread, leading to an uptick in Williams' total number of carries, giving him more opportunities to clear the over on his longest rush prop.
