Dynasty Fantasy Football: Time To Roast The Dynasty Life League
Jake Trowbridge takes this moment just before the start of the season to roast the Dynasty Life league in dynasty fantasy football.
Welcome to the roast of the Fantasy Life Dynasty League. Normally roasts are reserved for B-list celebrities or pop culture icons fake-smiling their way through uncomfortable jokes about a recent scandal.
Not this time. This time I’m roasting a dynasty league full of Fantasy Life’s best and brightest … but not Matthew Berry.
Matthew’s not in our company dynasty league because it would interfere with his favorite offseason activity … rewatching his cameo in Avengers: End Game. Did you know Matthew had a cameo in the highest-grossing movie of all time?? It’s true. Watching Matthew pop up next to Thor and Ironman is like seeing the boom mic operator wander into the frame during the climax of an adult film. (Matthew if you’re reading this, please don’t fire me. I’m just giving an example of the roast format.)
Our dynasty league has 12 teams with varying levels of dynasty experience. Some of us have played for years. For others, last year’s startup draft was their first foray into the format. And based on the standings, I’m pretty sure at least a couple people thought this was just supposed to be a group chat dedicated to that soap opera from the 80s.
Let’s Meet the Dynasty Life Fantasy Football League
Our reigning champion is cooterdoodle (aka “Amanda”). You know her best for her incredibly witty, insightful and often hilarious content. She does it all. But ya know what she doesn’t do? MAKE TRADES! OR WAIVER ADDS! Seriously …

Champion or not, playing in a dynasty league without trading or churning the bottom of your roster is like going to Chuck E Cheese strictly for the pizza. It’s like going to a water park and yelling at kids not to splash you. It’s more psychotic than pouring your milk before your cereal!
… Sigh.
Truthfully, I’m just mad that Amanda destroyed me in the championship match and is so confident in her ability to do it again that she’s literally going to copy and paste last year’s roster. It’s just … rude.
On the total opposite end of the spectrum, there’s Stefano. I love Stef. This man went into last year’s startup draft with a plan, and that plan was to focus every fiber of his being toward winning the gold in 2048. Seriously, you’ve never met a person who likes a rookie pick more than Stef. He kicks 25-year-olds to the curb faster than Leonardo DiCaprio. Most of his roster hasn’t graduated from elementary school yet.
They say if you’re not first you’re last. But Stef isn’t even running in the same race as the rest of us. So in a way, that makes him a winner by default. Stef also won’t trade me Makai Lemon, which, frankly, is no laughing matter.
Let’s See Some Dynasty Fantasy Football Trades
Speaking of trades, how about a rapid-fire roasting of everyone else’s offseason transactions.
When I told my leaguemates I was writing this article (and sought their permission to roast their asses for the sake of entertainment), these are the first messages I received:

Kendall and Beckett both trying to beat me to the punch with self-deprecation. A classic defense. Here’s their actual trade involving DJ Moore, by the way:

You know what I have to say about this trade? NOTHING. Absolutely nothing. I have no opinion. Which is worse than any burn I could come up with. So … BOOM! You both just got non-roasted in a roast article, you fools! The king is always one step ahead.
OK, how about this trade for Josh Downs?

Sending away Downs for a couple of second-rounders right before his value shot through the roof? That’s like leaving a Killers concert before they play Mr. Brightside. Or only watching the first 10 minutes of the movie Up. Or stopping Parks & Rec after the first season. Or …
[Holds finger to earpiece] What’s that? Josh Downs is now dealing with a calf injury? And that’s on top of the groin injury from earlier this month? Wait, and he’s … ALWAYS injured in some capacity because he’s a waifish little fella and this is what dynasty managers should expect on a semi-constant basis?
Ahem. As I was saying, fair trade, Sam. Moving on …

This one comes courtesy of George, who designs the graphics that accompany much of the Fantasy Life content (including this very article). And because I don’t want my face getting superimposed over Joe Pesci’s crotch in a future thumbnail, I will simply ask … George, how did Sam Darnold hurt you? Put a dead fish in your car’s air vent? Shrink your favorite hoodie in the dryer? Force you to listen to Pat McAfee’s album from start to finish??
In fairness to George, he just took over that team this summer and may not have even realized this is a superflex league. And I would once again request that he not do anything weird with my digital face.
What else do we have? How about a random waiver wire transaction that I’m definitely not posting as an excuse to make fun of Fantasy Life producer Matt Swing:

Hey, Swing, the championship trophy called. It renewed its restraining order against you. That … doesn’t really have anything to do with this specific waiver add. Just wanted to make sure you got the message.
Truth Time…
All right. So there really haven’t been many roast-worthy transactions in our league. And I’m not REALLY here to roast my leaguemates. The truth is this was all a bit of a Trojan Horse so that I could talk about how much this league—and this company—means to me.
I don’t often get sentimental, especially about fantasy football. But as we get ready to embark on another season, I wanted to express my love. For this game, for the people I play it with and work with, and for the welcomed distraction and joy that all of it brings. And sometimes I show that affection with jokes.
I suspect it’s the same for many of you reading this. When you roast Darren in the league chat about his dumbass trade, it’s not really about the trade. It’s about camaraderie. And kinship. It’s a way to say “I see you and I love you … but also seriously why the f*ck did you trade Colston Loveland for Javonte Williams you unbelievable sack of turds?”
Anyway, I digress. I just wanted you to know that when you see me out here giving dynasty advice, I’m not doing it from afar. I’m not looking at it through a two-way mirror. I’m living it and loving it.
And you better believe I’m roasting the hell out of my leaguemates, with great affection, in the group chat.
Here’s to a kickass 2026 season.
