Sell-High Candidates For Dynasty Fantasy Football: Time To Trade George Pickens?
Jonathan Fuller spotlights four players worth selling high on in dynasty fantasy football leagues ahead of the 2026 season.
One of the most difficult things to do in dynasty fantasy football leagues is to trade away a player who delivered for you last season. We all tend to overvalue the players on our own teams, especially the ones who just scored a bunch of fantasy points. Part of being a good dynasty manager is constantly looking to the future and assessing what the future may hold instead of only looking at what has happened recently.
In some cases, that means moving on from players before they are on a downward trajectory so that you can continue to reload your team with young talent and draft picks. Of course, part of that decision comes down to how likely you are to compete for a championship in the upcoming season. If you are not among the top two or three teams in your league, you need to give serious thought to whether you want to go all in on winning this year or try to build for the future by trading away valuable veterans for younger players and picks.Â
This article is for those managers who are in the latter group and need to figure out which players are good candidates to cash in on this year in order to add younger talent to their roster.
Players To Sell High In Dynasty Fantasy Football
George Pickens | WR | DAL
This is one where I will need to take my own advice because I have been a believer in Pickens for years and have him on several dynasty teams. That bet paid off in 2025 as he racked up career highs in most statistical categories. I do expect George Pickens to be productive again in 2026, but the future beyond that is highly uncertain. Dallas has seemed reluctant to give him a long-term extension, and his mercurial personality adds a level of risk to a mid-season implosion or falling out with the team.
At only 25 years old, Pickens is firmly in the prime of his career and at the height of his dynasty value. It is possible he could deliver a similar level of production again if things break right, but it is highly unlikely his value could go up from here. Seizing this opportunity to trade him away for a few players or picks coming off his career-best season is pretty likely to be a smart move when looking back in a year or two.
Davante Adams | WR | LAR
Trading away an aging player in dynasty fantasy football often isn’t worth the trouble because you have to take such a massive discount on their redraft value that you are usually better off just holding them and banking on their production.Â
That being said, I do think it is worth exploring opportunities to trade away Davante Adams to a contender if your team isn't one of the favorites. The Rams are running it back with essentially the same skill position group as last year, when Adams scored 14 TDs. His fantasy value last season was largely reliant on those TDs as he posted his fewest receiving yards since the 2015 season, as well as the lowest catch rate of his career and his worst YPRR since 2017.Â
For a 33-year-old WR coming off a relatively down season, it is at least fair to ask if he has lost a step. The Rams' interest in adding a WR this offseason doesn't do anything to dispel that notion either, even though they weren't able to do so.Â
Javonte Williams | RB | DAL
Â
Another Cowboy? Yes, Dallas should have a good offense again in 2026, but there is fragility among some of their top skill position talent. Williams was great in 2025 and is slated for a big role again in 2026. Dallas added nothing to their backfield and gave Javonte a contract extension, which are clear signs that they expect him to be their workhorse again this season.
The fact remains that Javonte has had multiple major knee injuries in his career and is entering his sixth NFL season. It's been fun to see his career come back to life after he was mostly left for dead by the fantasy community, but I have questions about how long this resurgence will last.Â
I wouldn't be in a rush to trade him away this offseason because he is unlikely to lose value unless he gets injured in training camp, but Williams could be a great early-season trade piece if he gets off to a hot start like I expect him to.
Alec Pierce | WR | IND
The Colts signaled major confidence in Alec Pierce by trading away Michael Pittman Jr. and giving Pierce a massive contract extension. On the surface, this makes sense after Pierce broke out in 2025 and Indy hit on Tyler Warren in the draft. They seemingly have plenty of pass-catching talent. However, I am not convinced Pierce has what it takes to be a more versatile weapon in the passing game. He is a quality deep threat, but his production in the short and intermediate areas is much less impressive. His 2025 breakout can primarily be attributed to his leading the NFL in aDOT (20.0) and yards per reception (21.3) by a wide margin.Â
To be clear, I'm not even sure the Colts need him to be more versatile; both Josh Downs and Warren are great in those short and intermediate areas of the passing game. But if Pierce's role doesn't grow and he just remains a deep threat, his production will be highly volatile and subject to long stretches of quiet games if he doesn't run as hot as last season.
Pierce should retain his weekly ceiling, but he will be a frustrating player to decide when to start. With the momentum coming off a big season, the contract extension and the reduced target competition, now is likely to be the best time to try to get a haul for Alec Pierce.
