Fantasy Football DvP Mismatch Report for Week 7: Matthew Golden vs. the Lions & More

Tipp Major highlights Week 7 fantasy football matchups to target or avoid based on defense vs. position, including Matthew Golden vs. the Lions.

Published Updated

You might have missed the Germie Bernard boat. He and Aaron Rodgers have developed a special connection, but don’t sleep on Ryan Flournoy.

If the Cowboys WR is still floating around your waiver wire, you could do a whole lot worse.

Dak Prescott apparently has the Steph Curry green light, averaging a ridiculous 45.25 pass attempts over his last four games.

Pair that with a Cowboys defense so bad it stings the nostrils, and somebody has to keep catching passes!

Flournoy has room to eat against an Eagles defense surrendering a league-high 20 fantasy points per game to slot receivers.

That’s one matchup worth chasing. Here are two more to target and one that has me reaching for the bench.

Week 7 Fantasy Football DvP Matchups To Target

WR Matthew Golden vs. Detroit Lions

Matt LaFleur’s running game is missing in action. Life without Josh Jacobs? Yeah, it shows!

But when Green Bay thinned out that receiver room, I was banging the drum for Matthew Golden.

Yo, the opportunities are HERE!

Golden has dropped SEVEN passes, including a deep shot against Dallas. Oof! Those hands owe fantasy managers an apology.

Still, Jordan Love keeps letting it fly. Golden leads the league with 16 targets of 20-plus yards.

Drops hurt, but his QB keeps coming back. Those chances keep Golden in play.

Now come the Lions, surrendering the second-most PPR points to WRs at 39.4 per game.

That secondary gives up yardage chunkier than real New England clam chowder. None of that canned stuff!

The drops make Golden risky, but those deep opportunities against this secondary put him in the WR3 conversation with week-winning upside.

Golden, catch the damn football.

KA-BOOOOM!

QB Matthew Stafford vs. Las Vegas Raiders

From one Matthew to another! Matthew Stafford is about 20 times slower than Golden, but he can still sling it with the best of them.

The problem? Consistency.

Throw injuries to his receiving corps into the mix, and last year’s MVP has another headache.

But this matchup? Too juicy to ignore!

Stafford averages 43.8 dropbacks per game. That’s plenty of volume to fuel a fantasy payday, even if his production hasn’t matched it.

His 18.64 fantasy points per game ranks 16th among 35 qualifying QBs.

Enter the Raiders.

Las Vegas allows the fifth-most fantasy points to QBs at 21.5 per game and has surrendered 13 total touchdowns to the position.

The Raiders also average 27 points per game. They have the offensive firepower to keep Stafford throwing instead of handing off and watching the clock.

Even without Davante Adams, Stafford belongs in the low-end QB1 conversation with upside.

Avoid This Week 7 Fantasy Football DvP Matchup

WR Josh Downs vs. Minnesota Vikings

Just when things couldn’t get any more effed up, Josh Downs and the Colts get a rested, 5-0 Vikings team, ouch!

Downs averages 6.7 targets per game and ranks second among WRs in separation score. The production? Apparently, that didn’t make the trip.

He sits at WR52, averaging 8.93 fantasy points per game. Dude is getting open, but nobody gets fantasy points for leaving a defender in the dust! Especially without the ball in your hands.

Minnesota allows the fourth-fewest fantasy points to WRs. Opposing WRs and TEs combine for just 19.6 targets per game.

If Tyler Warren sits, Downs could get more looks. But more targets won’t magically fix this passing game. Now Brian Flores gets extra time to cook up another headache.

Colts…batter up!

Downs is a risky FLEX. Got a comparable option in a better matchup? Leave this headache on the bench.
