Kendall's Key Questions for Week 8: Trades, Start/Sit Questions, and More
Kendall Valenzuela answers your fantasy football mailbag questions ahead of Week 8, including trade value questions and start/sit dilemmas.
Kendall's Key Questions for Week 8
Jeff - St. Louis: Trade question: I would be trading Brock Bowers for Breece Hall? I’m thin at RB with Jahmyr Gibbs and not much after him and I do have Isaiah Likely and Kyle Pitts.
While I understand wanting to trade for more running back depth, I just cannot give up a key fantasy piece like Brock Bowers, especially for a player who is injured. It looks like Breece Hall will be back on the field this Sunday, but even then Braelon Allen has looked so strong in his absence. The big question this weekend, if Hall can go, is what this split is going to look like. In this matchup against the Raiders, you hope that the split looks more like Kyren Williams and Blake Corum last weekend (each scored 17+ points against this defense).
But regardless of matchup this weekend, don't let go of a powerhouse like Bowers for Hall. I know he's come back down to earth these last two weeks, averaging 9.7 fantasy points per game, but you still want him long term.
Trevor - Ohio: Should I start Geno Smith or Jacoby Brissett?
I love starting the weekend with a streamer quarterback question! I have Jacoby Brissett ranked as my QB11 this week and Geno Smith is sitting as my QB16! The matchup for Brissett is pretty sweet if everything goes to plan, and we always like to pick on the Cowboys defense. Per SumerSports, the Cowboys rank 31st in pass EPA (0.23) and 29th in pass success rate (50.4%). Right now Brissett is averaging 16.2 points per game and hopefully can find connections with Michael Wilson and Trey McBride to give us some fantasy goodness.
I just want to shout out Smith though here, too. IT'S A REVENGE GAME! This Raiders defense ranks 27th in vertical points per game allowed, according to The Athletic. I think we are going to see another strong performance from Smith, much like we saw last week against Miami. Need another stat? Don't worry, I have some! The Raiders also have allowed the sixth-most passing touchdowns this season. Smith is another great streamer option, but against Brissett I'm going with the latter.
V - NY: Hello, hello hello Kendall and Ronis. Start/sit 2: Makai Lemon, KC Concepcion, Antonio Williams. Ty!
Makai Lemon is in another good spot with DeVonta Smith already ruled out for Week 8. The Eagles are going up against the Commanders, who provide the eighth-highest boost to wide receivers (+2.2 PPG). So Lemon is definitely going to be one of your starters. Next up would be KC Concepcion for me. Not only do we want to chase the full-time role, but he also had a 29% target share against the Titans last weekend. The big problem with Concepcion is always going to be the offense that he plays in and the chance that it somewhat falls apart at any moment. The Browns rank 23rd in passing yards per game right now (212).
I like Antonio Williams as a streaming option in other scenarios, especially with the idea that he gets more volume with Terry McLaurin sidelined for the rest of the season.
Vernon - AZ - Super flex half PPR 10 team home league, I have Tyler Higbee. Should I keep him or drop him for Chig Okonkwo, Hunter Henry, or Brenton Strange? Thanks!
I think it's a toss-up this week with Brenton Strange and Hunter Henry (I have them one spot apart from each other). The reason I would go with Henry in this start-sit is because it looks like the Patriots are going to be without A.J. Brown, so that means Henry will benefit. Since Mack Hollins has been out from Week 4 on, Henry has averaged 11 fantasy points per game, 21 targets, and a 70 Utilization Score. Plus, he gets a great matchup this weekend against the Dolphins, who are giving up a good boost to opposing tight ends.
