Reacting To Matthew Berry's Love/Hate For Week 9 Fantasy Football

I need you to understand something: Matthew Berry and I are very different.

That's not to say I'm super young, or anything. But Berry is a numbers guy. He's the sage wizard who offers sound advice built from years of learned experience. When it's time to set your lineups, you can trust that Berry's Love/Hate list is built on a solid foundation.

Me? I'm a storyteller. A romantic. A believer.

And in a world where both Baker Mayfield and Michael Penix can put on terrifically different kinds of disastrous QB performances in a divisional rival game in Week 8 … Perhaps both the data and the drama are necessary.

Week 9 Fantasy Football Loves Aligned

Berry can tell you the real reasons for Goff's projected success in Week 9, but for me it's much simpler.

Goff was supposed to eat sh*t last weekend.

Since Week 4, QBs have been having their worst fantasy outings of the season when facing up against MIN's defense. Yet the Lions pulled off a win. And though it was mostly through Jahmyr Gibbs, Goff still found himself pulling off double-digit fantasy points. A feat that only two other QBs have been able to accomplish this year.

So, yeah. I'm with Berry on this one. We love Goff. Because MIN couldn't break him, and his matchup is actually great this week.

Drew Lock vs. ARI

THIS GAME IS FOR THE ROMANTICS!

Drew Lock threw for 235 yards and 3 (!) TDs in Week 2 against Arizona. This week, he plays A-r-i-z-o-n-a.

But this time around, us fans are slated for an epic battle between two elite backups: Lock & Gardner F'kin Minshew.

Minshew threw 3 TDs last week, by the way.

I'm so glad to see Lock made Berry's Love list. But if it were up to me, both passers would. Call me a romantic, I guess.

If you roster Jonathan Taylor, no one needs to tell you to start him.

But you might find comfort in knowing that this is going to be yet another big week for him (Cool. Good for you. I'm not jealous at all). In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if Week 9 becomes Taylor's fourth 2-TD game of the season.

Jerry Jones better close his eyes on this one.

I hate to say it, but Berry is right. The matchup for Justin Jefferson is great this week. So, I won't fault Berry for adding Jefferson to his Love list this week.

But … I can't get behind it. And I won't.

Starting Justin Jefferson is like watching your best friend go on dates with a total jackass week after week. My friend is great. Fantastic, even. In fact, my friend is an absolute catch!

But I'm sick and tired of watching my friend settle for a sub-par guy who is averaging less than 1 passing TD per game. But maybe, just maybe, Carson Wentz can treat Jefferson right. ALEXA, play Stop the Wedding.

Chase Brown @ ATL

If you want to know what Berry thinks about Chase Brown this week, you won't find it here. He's too worried about Drake London tearing CIN's defense apart.

But did Kenneth Gainwell's 140-yard performance against ATL in Week 8 mean nothing to you, Berry??

Sure, I'm not stupid. I know Joe Burrow isn't going to limit himself to three single passes this week. But I'll be damned if Tampa Bay's wear and tear on the Falcons doesn't sway me into loving Brown this week.

So go on, Berry. Tell the people why you looove London in Week 9. But my money is on Chase Brown finally landing his first TD since Week 1.

As a Saints fan, please know that I say this with peace and love and care: Our run game is f*cking atrocious. It's disgusting. It's embarrassing. And it's something I refuse to subject my daughter to.

To make matters worse: Firing NO's run game coordinator, T.J. Paganetti, won't do much to solve the problem if he wasn't even given the reins to make big decisions in the first place …
