Taylen Green Long-Term Dynasty Fantasy Football Outlook With Cleveland Browns: Future Randall Cunningham?

Jorge Martin breaks down the long-term dynasty fantasy football outlook for Taylen Green with the Cleveland Browns.

Taylen Green is a QB out of Central Casting. He stands just a hair under 6-foot-6 and weighs 227 pounds, which is the same height and less than 10 pounds under Justin Herbert’s measurements. He has a strong arm and can fly, as evidenced by his record-setting 4.36 reading on his 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine. What’s not to love?

Well, scouts definitely raved about Green’s vast tool shed, but many were left wanting more, as the signal-caller from Arkansas (via Boise State) put up some numbers but left many wondering if he might be more Desmond Ridder—spectacular combine, meh when NFL starting opportunity came—than Herbert, Josh Allen or Lamar Jackson.

All this is not to say that Green’s athletic gifts are not salivating. The combination of his big arm and speed could tell a story for fantasy, and there is evidence that he’s put up some production at the college level (46 starts). In his last two seasons after transferring to Arkansas, Green posted 315 plays of 10+ yards and 109 plays of 20+ yards. Both of those numbers topped FBS. His 2,714 passing yards and 19 TDs (11 interceptions) and 777-8 on the ground further tell the story of how he’s a gifted QB. It’s just that when watching him play, it’s pretty clear that Green is, well, green.

Having played for the Razorbacks and Bobby Petrino, Green shares something with Jackson. Petrino also coached Jackson at Louisville. And while there are a few similarities, Jackson is on his own level when it comes to tucking the ball and running. That’s no slight to Green, who actually bears some resemblance in playing style to one of the NFL’s dual-threat pioneers in Randall Cunningham. Both are tall, long striders who ate up the turf when they really got going on the ground. Cunningham, though, had arguably one of the strongest arms in NFL history. Just look at this bomb to Randy Moss. Again, no slight toward Green in this regard. The kid can still sling it.

Landing in Cleveland in the sixth round of the NFL Draft may not look great on the surface for the rookie, but this could have been a sneaky-good landing spot for Green. With Shedeur Sanders and Deshaun Watson at the top of the QB depth chart, neither appears to be a long-term answer for the Browns at the most important position.

Also, Green will be under the tutelage of Todd Monken, who in his last two stops has coached up Stetson Bennett to a national championship at Georgia, and then went to Baltimore, where he was the OC for Jackson for three seasons. In 2024, Monken was calling plays for arguably Jackson’s best season—4,172 passing yards and 41 TDs to go with 915-4 rushing.

Monken is known for being a solid-to-great offensive mind, and with his experience working with Jackson, this could be a very good environment to learn for Green. The issue with Cleveland is that ownership could blow up the coaching staff if the Browns are losing, which could stunt Green’s learning curve. Or even if the staff stays after a losing season, the Browns could be picking toward the top of what is regarded as a loaded 2027 QB class. Still, is Green gifted enough to throw a dart at him? Absolutely, and he’s going around the fourth round of rookie drafts. Stash away.
