Published Updated

Turning our sights back toward training camp, plenty of reports have swirled around social media, including an update on Alec Pierce, who is currently rehabbing an ankle injury. Adonai Mitchell and Deebo Samuel have also found themselves in the headlines, giving us plenty to dig into before the second week of preseason games.

Here are the latest NFL training camp updates with fantasy football implications.

Training Camp Updates for Fantasy Football

With Daniel Jones back under center, all eyes are on Alec Pierce, who quietly finished his 2025 campaign ranked in the top 15 in EPA per play at the position. Luckily for Indianapolis Colts fans, Pierce has shown signs of progression while participating in indoor workouts, indicating their WR1 is on the fast track to make his return to the field.

Keeping our attention on the Colts, Keenan Allen is projected to be their WR3, serving as a depth piece while question marks continue to linger over Pierce. This gives Josh Downs the opportunity to make his case for being the WR2, offering assurance for those who believe in his upside as a multi-tool weapon.

Since joining the New York Jets, Adonai Mitchell has continued to receive praise for his performance on the field, strengthening his claim as the WR2 in their revamped offense. Throughout training camp, Mitchell has turned heads, leading to a bump in his usage rate.

Mitchell’s gain has been the demise of Omar Cooper, a rookie WR who was expected to contribute to their turnaround as a first-round selection. Not only is Cooper losing ground as their WR2, it has also been reported he has lost reps to Isaiah Williams, potentially leading to a slide down the depth chart. Until we get more clarity on the status of Cooper, target other WRs at his ADP who possess a higher floor.

After successfully pulling Mike Evans away from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the San Francisco 49ers have continued to add to their WR room, bringing back Deebo Samuel to give them some much needed depth. While his workload remains a mystery, Samuel has been spotted lining up in multiple positions, signaling he will play a versatile role in the offense.

Still, until we get more clarity on his role, draft with caution as you are taking on a wide range of outcomes. Especially with rookie WR De’Zhaun Stribling impressing throughout training camp, chipping away at Samuel’s target share as a viable weapon. If Evans misses any time, Stribling will see a major bump in his usage, making him an intriguing late round stash to target.

DET_lions-logo.svgSam LaPorta Suffers Hip Injury

Just when it looked like Sam LaPorta was on track to make his return to the field before the start of the regular season, a recent hip injury has raised red flags, putting his status for Week 1 in jeopardy. It's a disappointing development for a Lions offense that has already been ravaged by injuries, as LaPorta joins C Cade Mays and RB Isiah Pacheco who both went down earlier in camp.

With injuries continuing to plague LaPorta, consider drafting Tucker Kraft, Harold Fanin and Kyle Pitts. If you miss out on the group entirely,, punt on the position and fill up on RBs and WRs and then take a high-upside TE like Isaiah Likely in the later rounds.
