Week 1 Defense (DST) Streamers For Fantasy Football: Jags Set To Tee Off Against Deshaun Watson

We are so back. The 2026 fantasy football season is upon us, which means that it is time to set those starting lineups. We spend the whole offseason evaluating the QB, RB, WR and TE positions, but most fantasy managers tend to only think about which DST they should draft a few minutes ahead of time.

When figuring out which defense I want to start in any given week, I am primarily looking for DSTs with the ability to create sacks and turnovers rather than minimizing points allowed to the other team, although those two things are correlated. I think this is one of the bigger mistakes fantasy managers make when thinking about fantasy defenses. As you will see in this article, I am generally focused on three things: offensive line play, QB turnover rates and game script.

Defense (DST) Streamers For Week 1 Fantasy Football

This article is for Week 1, and most draft platforms require you to draft a full starting lineup, so you won't truly be 'streaming' the position in Week 1. As a result, this article is focused on non-premium DSTs that I would recommend targeting in the final few rounds of your draft.

After Week 1, I will be focused on DSTs rostered in less than 50% of leagues. The emphasis will always be on giving the best possible matchup in the current week because you should be willing to churn your defense every week if it helps you win, but I will also keep an eye on upcoming weeks because it is valuable to be able to play the same DST for a few weeks in a row and not have to burn FAAB unnecessarily.

Jacksonville Jaguars

There is no better opposing offense to target than the Cleveland Browns. If I had to guess, this article will feature the Browns' opponent every week that they qualify under the 50% rostered threshold.

The last time we saw Deshaun Watson as a starter in 2024, he was one of the worst QBs in the league. He took 33 sacks in the seven games he started and only threw multiple passing TDs in one of those games. Since then, he has suffered two Achilles injuries, which can't have helped his mobility. Cleveland also has a poor offensive line, which PFF ranked 31st heading into this season.

The Jaguars have a solid but unspectacular defense, but Josh Hines-Allen and Travon Walker are plenty good enough to get after Watson in his first start since Week 7 of the 2024 season. It also helps that Jacksonville is at home and favored by 7.5 points, which is an ideal setup for a pass rush to rack up opportunities for sacks and turnovers.

The only downside is that you probably won't want to keep them for more than one week, as they have a run of games against the Broncos, Patriots, Bengals and Eagles in Weeks 2-5.

Philadelphia Eagles

Philadelphia is the most highly drafted of this group, but there is still a significant ADP gap between them and the top four defenses, so I have generally seen them go in the last few rounds of my drafts. I am including them in this article because I actually think they could be worth taking a defense just slightly early (the second or third to last round) in order to guarantee you get them.

A lot has been made this offseason of how poor the Commanders' offensive line is following the Laremy Tunsil injury. They are the worst offensive line in the NFL according to every ranking I have seen. On the other side, Philadelphia has a very talented and deep defensive line, led by Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis. They should be among the most effective pass rushes in the NFL this year and will get better late in games due to the depth that allows them to rotate and keep players fresh.

Jayden Daniels is not the typical QB profile that we target due to his ability to escape the pass rush, but if he is under pressure as much as I expect him to be, the Eagles' pass rush is going to get home a number of times in this game. Daniels is also not known as a super safe QB; he will take some risks, which creates opportunities for turnovers. In seven starts last season, he had three interceptions and three fumbles lost. If Philly can get out to a lead at home and force Washington to try to throw to keep up, this defensive line should be able to generate a lot of pressure and accumulate a solid fantasy score, even if the Washington offense puts some points on the board.

Another reason I like targeting the Eagles defense is the fact that they get the Titans in Week 2, which should be another great matchup for this defense.

New York Jets

OK, this one is a true streamer. The Jets defense usually goes undrafted, but if you really want to punt the position or if you play in a deep league, they are one to keep an eye on. They have a very favorable Week 1 matchup against the Titans and have enough talent on their defensive line to be one of the better scoring DSTs of Week 1.

For all the highlights that Cam Ward generated in 2025, his down-to-down consistency was very poor. He ranked dead last in EPA per play and success rate, and third worst in completion percentage over expected. Among QBs with at least 300 dropbacks, he also had the fifth-highest turnover-worth play rate and was tied with Geno Smith for the most-sacked QB. All of that combines to make a dream matchup for an opposing fantasy defense.

It is worth noting that the Titans did improve their pass catching weapons by adding Carnell Tate and Wan'Dale Robinson, but they still have one of the worst offensive lines in the league (29th according to PFF). Although the Jets don't have a great defensive line, they do have some intriguing young talent, most notably rookie David Bailey, whom they selected with the second overall pick. If he is an impact player as a rookie, it could elevate this defensive line, which does have some talent, but has been missing a standout pass rusher to draw attention from the opposing offense.

There is some risk that Ward will have improved from last year, but I’ll believe that when I see it and will continue to treat the Titans like a plus matchup for DST purposes until proven otherwise.
