Chicago Bears vs. Carolina Panthers Picks, Odds, Predictions, and Player Props for Week 1
Matt LaMarca breaks down the Chicago Bears versus Carolina Panthers matchup from a betting perspective with predictions, picks and prop bets.
After shocking the world, the Chicago Bears are now firmly in the spotlight, bringing back a majority of a core that led them to the second round of the playoffs. Like the Bears, the Carolina Panthers also managed to make the most of their situation last season, now set to defend their division title and make a second straight appearance in the postseason.
Chicago Bears vs Carolina Panthers Betting Odds For Week 1
- Spread: Bears -3 (-102, DraftKings)
- Moneyline: Bears (-145, BetMGM)
- Game Total: 47.5 (Over -102/Under -120, FanDuel)
Even though the Chicago Bears' 2025 campaign was impressive, it’s hard to ignore the negative regression looming over them. Especially with their defense dealing with injuries to key players on their back end, a group that already struggled to play at a competitive level per their bottom-10 mark in defensive DVOA.
While it remains to be seen whether Bryce Young can turn into a surefire QB1, he will at least have a great opportunity to get off to a hot start by picking apart the Bears' gaps in coverage. Young’s inconsistencies have plagued his career since being selected with the first overall pick in the 2023 draft, ranking 29th in EPA per play and 21st in bad throw percentage.
With the Panthers' defense also struggling to hold their own in coverage, expect Caleb Williams to match their output, turning their Week 1 contest into a fast-paced track meet.
Prediction & Pick For Chicago Bears vs Carolina Panthers Week 1 Matchup
- The Pick: o47.5 (-102, FanDuel)
Like the Bears, the Panthers also underwhelmed on defense last season, fielding a group that hovered in the bottom 10 in defensive DVOA and EPA. Their inability to defend against explosiveness flipped the field in a flash, putting their opponents in a favorable position to score.
While Caleb Williams' sporadic play under center brings in a high amount of havoc, he is still able to stretch the field with his arm, ranking in the top-15 in air yards/reception. The Panthers' defensive line will also struggle to bring him down, which will give his pass catchers more time in their routes to create space.
In the off-chance the Panthers' secondary is able to hold its own in coverage, Williams is an efficient runner, averaging 5.0 yards per carry. This will force the Panthers to make a decision: either spy linebackers and risk getting burned through the air, or drop them back to cover the trio of Rome Odunze, Luther Burden and Colston Loveland, leaving them vulnerable to getting beat on the ground.
On the other side of the field, Young will be able to stay ahead of the sticks by attacking a defense that resides near the bottom of the board in success rate, leading to an uptick in their total number of scoring opportunities. Expect a duel to take place between the two young QBs, clearing the over on the full-game total in the process.
Best Player Prop Bet For Chicago Bears vs Carolina Panthers
D’Andre Swift - o61.5 Rushing Yards (-112, bet365)
After chalking up his abdominal injury to cramps, D’Andre Swift is expected to receive a heavy workload out of the gate, especially with his backup Kyle Monangai less than 100%. In his second stint with the Bears, Swift has blossomed into a RB1, averaging nearly five yards per carry while ranking above league average in yards over expected per attempt.
With the Panthers' front seven struggling to stuff the run in the trenches, Swift will be able to consistently reach the second level of their defense, improving his chances of rattling off an explosive run. The emergence of Burden will also help pull linebackers away from the box, leading to more yards before contact.
If you want to increase your exposure on Swift, escalator bet his rushing yardage prop by placing smaller wagers on his alternate overs at the best available odds across multiple sportsbooks.
