College Football National Championship Futures: Gunner Stockton Leads Georgia

We’re a month into the college football season, and we’ve already seen some surprise teams rise as National Championship favorites.

These three teams look like championship contenders and deserve attention.

National Championship Futures Bets for College Football 2026

Georgia Bulldogs (+720)

The Bulldogs seem to be just going about their business and haven’t been as polarizing as some of the top teams in the nation.

The offense looks dangerous, led by quarterback Gunner Stockton. He could start seeing Heisman Trophy buzz, as he is ranked fourth in yards per attempt (10.8) and seventh in completion rate (74.8%). Most importantly, they make few mistakes, with just four turnovers, and they score and are one of nine teams in the nation with more than 20 red zone attempts and at least a 90% conversion rate.

They have also showcased their offensive depth. The Bulldogs’ top running back, Nate Frazier, recently missed the matchup against Oklahoma, but RB Dwight Phillips Jr. in Frazier’s spot as the leading running back rushed for 84 yards on 8 carries, including a touchdown.

Georgia has always been anchored by a top-tier defense, and 2026 is no exception, as the team leads the nation in yards allowed per game (232.5) and ranks seventh in takeaways (9).

Georgia's schedule will get tougher. Of its next five opponents, three are ranked in the top 10 (No. 7 Alabama, No. 8 Florida, No. 9 Ole Miss), including road games in Tuscaloosa and Oxford. The Bulldogs face a brutal schedule every year, yet they’ve won three of the last four SEC Championships.

Miami Hurricanes (+900)

The Hurricanes were close to capturing the national title last year, and they look better this season. Quarterback Carson Beck played well last season, but Darian Mensah looks like he could be the best quarterback in the country. He’s leading the FBS with 14 touchdowns, but what’s more impressive is that he has fewer incompletions (12) than touchdowns.

It helps when Miami has one of the country’s most talented wide receivers. Malachi Toney is building on last season’s incredible freshman campaign and ranks third in receiving yards (564) and second in yards after the catch (243). 

Miami has dominated its opponents, outscoring them 207-36. It hasn’t faced the toughest competition, but its win over Wake Forest looks better after the Demon Deacons upset No. 16 Louisville. 

Miami’s upcoming schedule might be tougher than expected. Clemson, Pitt, Virginia Tech, and Duke are a combined 15-1 to start the season. Then Miami plays No. 3 Notre Dame in South Bend. If Miami beats these teams, it could be a serious title contender. 

Texas Tech Red Raiders (+2200)

The Red Raiders have been one of the most consistent programs in college football, with wins in 17 of their last 18 regular-season games dating back to 2024, and are the current favorites to win the Big 12.

Offensively, Will Hammond's three interceptions last week against Sam Houston State are a concern, but they mask it, as the team relies on the run game, which ranks 50th among 138 programs in rushing play percentage (55.3%). 

J’Koby Williams and Cameron Dickey form a powerful backfield duo. Dickey is a power back who plows through tackles, while Williams has speed and is also a valuable pass catcher.

The defense remains one of the Red Raiders’ biggest strengths, ranking 37th in points allowed per game (18.7). Their defensive front looks like a brick wall and is stout against the run, ranking 25th in rushing yards allowed per game (94.8). It is also one of five FBS programs that have not allowed a rushing touchdown.

This team is talented on both sides of the line of scrimmage, with 10 sacks and only five sacks allowed. That is an aspect of a title contender.
