Even though the New York Jets are projected to finish near the bottom of the overall standings, their future looks bright after overhauling their roster this offseason. In a favorable matchup against the Tennessee Titans, expect the Jets' revamped offense to get integrated quickly while exploiting a defense that struggles to defend at all three levels.

It may sound crazy to say, but I actually like what the New York Jets are doing. Their re-tooled offensive line will help Geno Smith round back into form after an abysmal 2025 campaign, giving him the protection he needs to take care of the ball.

On the other side of the ball, the Jets used their second overall pick in the draft to select David Bailey, a prototypical EDGE who generates pressure at a high rate. While the secondary is still lacking, any improvement up front will help mask it by forcing opposing QBs to get the ball out of their hands shortly after the snap.

Tennessee, on the other hand, is banking on Cam Ward to improve in his second year after finishing last season ranked dead last in EPA per play. While the addition of Carnell Tate will help with his development, their connection is still unproven, potentially resulting in another long year if Ward continues to underwhelm.

I just can’t help but love what the Jets are doing. While Smith’s performance last season gives me pause, it’s easier to back him knowing he will at least be operating behind a productive offensive line. The protection Smith will receive will also give his pass catchers more time in the open field to create separation, widening the width of his passing lanes.

By stretching out the Titans' secondary, the width of Breece Hall’s running lanes in the middle will widen, increasing his chances of generating an explosive run. Defending against the run was a massive issue for the Titans last season, finishing the year ranked 28th in defensive rush EPA.

Speaking of defense, the Jets front four will be able to collapse the pocket at a more consistent rate, bringing in Bailey to help pull attention away from Will McDonald. By clamping down the outside, Ward will be forced to either throw into a tight window or scramble up the middle, leading to disastrous results.

The Jets' ability to stop opposing RBs from cutting the distance to gain in half will also keep the Titans offense comfortably behind the line to gain on later downs, fielding a group who ranked in the middle of the board in defensive rush success rate. This will help stall out the Titans early on in their drives, giving the Jets generous field position to take advantage of. If the Jets climb up to +3, place a separate wager on them to cover the spread as well.

Throughout the offseason, I broke down who to target as a potential sleeper in the later rounds of your draft, including Adonai Mitchell, who has been praised for his performance in training camp. His development has helped him hold off Omar Cooper, securing the job as the Jets' WR2.

With Mitchell in line for a heavier workload, he will see an uptick in his total number of targets, racking up yards in the process. When on the field, Mitchell has made the most of his opportunities, quietly ranking in the top-20 in aDot and in target percentage. With Wilson commanding defensive attention, Mitchell will be able to take advantage of the single coverage he receives and create a high-quality target for Smith to throw to.
