Well, that was certainly something. Just when it looked like Carolina was going to pull away in the NFC South, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers brought the Panthers back down to reality hard with a 43-13 win. With the Green Bay Packers on deck, the Panthers must quickly round back into form or risk falling behind the Atlanta Falcons in the division standings.

Carolina Panthers vs Green Bay Packers Betting Odds For Week 8

  • Spread: Packers -3.5 (-110, theScore Bet)
  • Moneyline: Packers (-190, theScore Bet)
  • Game Total: 47.5 (Over -110/Under -110, Hard Rock Bet)

Do not let the Bucs' thumping fool you, as costly turnovers made it impossible for the Panthers to compete, leading to a lopsided affair. Before falling flat on his face, Bryce Young was playing at a high level, ranking in the top 10 in QB EPA per play while averaging 9.4 air yards per throw.

Like the Panthers, the Packers are also fresh off a devastating loss after falling just short against Detroit, keeping them at the bottom of the NFC North standings. Even while controlling the middle of the field, the Packers were held back by self-imposed errors, giving the Lions the edge they needed to secure the win.

Heading into Thursday night, oddsmakers believe Green Bay will be able to bounce back, listing the Packers at -3.5 with some sportsbooks climbing to a flat -4. The total also took some immediate action, shooting up to 47.5 after opening at 45.5.

Prediction & Pick For Carolina Panthers vs Green Bay Packers Week 8 Matchup

  • The Pick: Packers Team Total u26.5 (-110, theScore Bet)

Since the start of the regular season, the Packers' offensive line has been abysmal, entering Week 8 ranked dead last in true pass set grade while hovering near the bottom of the board in run block. Green Bay’s inability to ward off pressure forces Jordan Love to get the ball out of his hands quickly after the snap, lowering the quality of his throws.

Unfortunately for Love, the Panthers generate pressure at a top-10 rate, forcing the Packers' QB to weave the ball through narrow windows for minimal success. Carolina’s pressure up front also allows the secondary to jam the WRs at the line of scrimmage, making it easier to keep a body near the point of contact to stop the Packers from creating an explosive play.

To make matters worse for Green Bay, the Packers lack the versatility that is needed to stretch out the Panthers' coverage while ranking dead last in rush EPA per play. Even with Josh Jacobs back on the field, the Packers' RB is forced to fight off contact in the backfield due to the lack of protection up front, leading to minimal gains with each carry.

With neither facet of the offense being able to get into a groove, the Packers will struggle to stay ahead of the sticks, leading to a higher volume of early outs. Place a wager on the Packers to be held under the team total of 26.5 with intentions of adding more to your position should the total steam up to the key number of 28.

Best Player Prop Bet For Carolina Panthers vs Green Bay Packers

Chuba Hubbard - o69.5 Rushing Yards (-115, BetMGM)

With Rico Dowdle out of the picture, Chuba Hubbard has been able to capitalize on his heavier workload, leaping into the top half of the board in yards over expected per attempt while averaging 4.8 yards per carry. Young’s resurgence under center has helped create more space in the middle for Hubbard to exploit, making it difficult for opposing LBs to bring him down once he reaches the open field.

Against Green Bay, Hubbard will have a great opportunity to run wild by gashing a front seven that has struggled to stuff the run, per the Packers' bottom-three mark in rush success rate. With the Packers allowing Hubbard to cut the distance to gain in half with each carry, the Panthers will be able to convert at a higher rate, leading to an uptick in his total number of rush attempts.
