Cooterdoodle hands out valuable advice on how to avoid the 5 biggest mistakes on fantasy football draft day.
Cooterdoodle wants your fantasy draft to be a day to remember. Heed her warnings and avoid these draft day mistakes.
Your draft is the best f*cking day of the year!! Until it isn't.
Whether you're new to this fantasy stuff or a seasoned vet, it doesn't matter. Draft day mistakes are committed by all experience levels of fantasy players.
Avoid these “Big Five” draft day mistakes, lest they ruin the experience for you and for your league.
The 5 Biggest Mistakes That Could Ruin Your Fantasy Football Draft Day
1. Being the Commissioner's Biggest Nightmare
Don’t be the doofus who makes every logistical aspect of the draft a giant hurdle.
Paying your fees and showing up to draft is supposed to be the easy part!
When you’re high maintenance, it gives off an aura of “low effort.”
And trust me, your commissioner hates it.
HOW TO AVOID IT:
- Pay your dues on time
- Arrive at the draft on time
- Don’t take more than your allotted time on the clock (Clock penalties should exist)
- Learn your league’s rules and scoring system
2. Getting Tunnel Vision
Don’t be a rigid frigid b*tch.
Your draft will be self-sabotaged if you get tunnel vision and try to force everything.
Remember to be flexible!
HOW TO AVOID IT:
- Never force yourself into a draft strategy that doesn't fit
- Read the board and pivot appropriately
- Have multiple players queued up before your pick (Don’t become a sniper's paradise)
3. All Ceiling, No Floor
When your Pre-K teacher told you to “shoot for the stars,” they didn’t mean it.
Drafting your whole team on the hopes, dreams, and wishes of high-ceiling players is a sure-fire way to end up in Loser Town.
You’ll want to take some safer, proven, high-floor picks to counter the risks you’re taking with the “big swing” ceiling plays.
If you keep your head in the clouds, you’ll forget to keep your eye on the prize.
HOW TO AVOID IT:
- Don’t draft too many rookies
- Don’t draft too many “Risky” players
- Don’t draft too many “Upside Plays”
4. Drafting Like The New Guy
What the hell is this? Amateur hour?
Don’t get caught up in rookie mistakes.
It’s not only bad for your team, but it’s f*cking embarrassing.
HOW TO AVOID IT:
- Don’t overvalue homer picks
- Respect the ADP! Don’t make a habit of reaching
- DO NOT be the first to draft a defense and/or kicker
5. Being Too Casual
If you take anything away from this article, let it be this: This is one of the best days of the year. Not just for you, but for all of your leaguemates.
Don’t underwhelm or offend by treating your draft like just another Sunday.
HOW TO AVOID IT:
- Come prepared (With a Fantasy Life+ membership)
- Be sure to pick a team name
- Never, under any circumstances, ask to use someone else’s cheat sheet
- Don’t get caught up bantering and bullsh*tting for so long that you forget you’re on the clock
Simple enough, right?
Now, go out there and have the best day of your life!!
