We all remember Kansas City’s Week 1 belt-to-bottom beatdown of the Broncos, but a lot’s changed since then. Still an incredible offense through a macro-based lens (6.4 yards/play, 48.5% success rate, 0.09 EPA/play), KC’s coming off a bit lopsided toward the run game, gaining nearly as many yards per attempt on the ground (5.2) as air yards per target (5.9). That game versus DEN was also the first of two top-10 finishes in a row for Patrick Mahomes, who’s not only failed to crack the QB1 ranks since — he’s the QB30 in points/game since (12.4).

Without any realistic vertical threats on offense, defenses can push up more and more toward the line of scrimmage, forcing the Chiefs to beat them over the top — something Mahomes, at a 7.6% deep shot rate (16 total), is hardly trying. Losing Tyquan Thornton really hurt the offense as a whole, still devoid of a top-50 WR on the season. 50!?! Yikes, who among you didn’t think Xavier Worthy would at least represent a back-end WR3? Sheesh.

Instead, the Chiefs rotated toward more 12-personnel, getting Noah Gray (22.2% target/route, 3.59 yards/route since bye) more involved next to stalwart Travis Kelce. Long story long, the pass-catching cupboard’s bare, especially given the matchup, plus the return of Patrick Surtain. For what it's worth, I’m adding Cyrus Allen in some deeper 14-team leagues just in case he steps into this massive void.

Bet your bottom dollar Kenneth Walker’s more than stoked to get back on the field after posting his first stinker of 2026. Week 8 can’t come fast enough for overall RB2 and his ridiculous workload (23.0 touches/game, 83.0% backfield share, 97.1% goal-to-go snaps) — though I’m wary of repeating that same Week 1 dominance (23-173-1; 3-18-1), when he proved untacklable against Denver’s front seven. Lucky for KC, Denver can’t push the ball either, so Walker’s in line for another massive workload in a neutral game script even if the efficiency wanes a touch.

  • Start: Kenneth Walker (RB2), Travis Kelce (TE3)
  • Sit: Patrick Mahomes (QB19), Xavier Worthy (WR32)
  • Sleeper: Noah Gray (TE29)

If fantasy gamers posted one of those public enemy number one posters, it’d have to feature the 2026 Broncos front and center. Not only is this bottom-5 offense downright offensive analytically (57.1 plays/game, 4.7 yards/play, 40.5% success rate, -0.07 EPA/play), the defense returned to peak powers the last month — sinking the final nail into the fantasy coffin. Seven games into the season, Broncos’ games account for a measly 40.7 points/contest. Ugh.

Yes, Bo Nix finally cracked a top-10 weekly finish against an atrocious Cardinals’ D (222-1-0; 7-73-1), but let’s be honest — the majority came on a single play this Chiefs’ front seven simply doesn’t allow. KC’s allowed the third-fewest QB fantasy points/game (12.0) and second-fewest WR fantasy points/game (13.6) for a reason. Again, the theme of real-life versus fantasy comes to the fore. Nix hasn’t thrown a pick in a month, while eating multiple sacks just once in six tries.

You’d be crazy to trust any pass catchers on Denver as well, devoid of a top-25 WR in five straight games. Jaylen Waddle returned to practice (chest), so at 24.2% target/route and 1.48 yards/route, I guess he’s startable for brand-name value. Keep in mind that besides the goat Jaxon Smith-Njigba going for (9-150-1), no other WR topped 72 yards in a game or scored a single TD. Wow.

Denver’s ground game’s equally messy, even if hopes remain high for rookie Jonah Coleman’s return to a “lead role”. Sadly, those quotation marks are necessary so long as there are three viable RBs touching the ball in any given week. Coleman owned just 50% of the backfield share at Arizona, while ceding the lone goal-to-go carry to J.K. Dobbins. Once more, all that bodes way better for a real-life winning football team than our fantasy rosters.

  • Start: Jonah Coleman (RB29), Jaylen Waddle (N/A)
  • Sit: Bo Nix (QB25)
  • Sleeper: Courtland Sutton (WR33)
