Las Vegas Raiders vs. Kansas City Chiefs Matchup Breakdown For Fantasy Football Week 4
John Laghezza breaks down the Week 4 matchup between the Chiefs and Raiders for fantasy football.
Wow. Wow? Wow! Consider that a direct quote as I try to digest the fact that one of the last battles between undefeated teams includes the Kirk Cousins Raiders. Trying to predict this league is an exercise in futility sometimes …

Kansas City Chiefs Fantasy Preview
One thing experienced ball-knowers did see coming was Kansas City’s impending dominance, with a fortified defense to play opposite a true workhorse RB. Oh, and the best quarterback of my lifetime. Style may have changed a touch, but the story’s still the same — Kansas City’s a wagon that can beat you in different ways.
Few players earn the title of an absolute must-start more than RB Kenneth Walker, who’s done just about all one human can do to extinguish any doubts surrounding workload (25.3 touches/game, 78.4% backfield opportunity share) or receiving ability (19.8% team targets, 34.0% target/route, 1.6 yards/route). Honestly, if we drafted again today, Walker’s easily a consensus top-3 overall pick. Congrats to anyone who listened to me ranting and raving about this possibility all summer.
Pass-catching side’s strong analytically for KC, but coming off to me as a bit of a fugazzi (ducks). Yes, I realize fading or doubting Patrick Mahomes in any fashion historically winds up one way and one way only. However, there are a few warts here that might push me to actually try to sell high on someone like Rashee Rice before the bottom drops out.
For starters, KC’s competition has been terrible — they’re supposed to destroy objectively terrible secondaries like the Colts and Dolphins. Now, after facing a tough Raiders’ front seven, they’re off on the bye but followed by the Chargers, Seahawks, Broncos, and Jets all in a row. Talk about tough sledding. Plus, Mahomes 5.5 air yards/attempt ranks dead last among starters, so he’s relying on a league-best 65% of yards occurring after the catch. Can you say not sustainable?
Trust me, I fully understand that scheme and quarterback play maintain a role in yards after the catch, but I’m not buying that as something they can keep up.
- Start: Patrick Mahomes (QB4), Kenneth Walker (RB3), Travis Kelce (TE6)
- Sit: Xavier Worthy (WR47)
- Sleeper: Rashee Rice (WR18)
Las Vegas Raiders Fantasy Preview
Three up, three down. No problemo, huh? After beating one team they should, then two teams they shouldn’t, it’s high time to give Las Vegas credit where it’s due. For one, I didn’t think winning in New Orleans was even in the cards after the Saints beat the Ravens in their own building … but here we are.
Give it up for the olds! Three cheers to Kirk Cousins, who’s somehow leading the NFL in passing touchdowns as his 38th birthday approaches. Currently fantasy’s QB9 despite negative rushing yards on the ledger, Cousins seems to be a perfect fit in Klint Kubiak’s scheme — Manage the game plan around a creative ground-based attack through heavy and efficient use of play-action (1st in play-action EPA/dropback; +0.55). Easy game, right?
The biggest surprise may not be Vegas’ aerial success, so much as their ability to bait DBs into heavy boxes with some of the worst rushing metrics in the game. No, seriously. I know we see Ashton Jeanty averaging over +18 fantasy points/game, but his production’s been mostly through the pass game (+18% team target share), along with a featured goal-line role.
Point being, 3.3 yards/rush plus -0.26 EPA/attempt rank bottom-5 among all RBs with +30 carries, and his +25% rate of carries ≤0 yards stands dead last by more than a full tick. In fact, both of the Raiders’ longest runs this season, and the only ones over 15 yards each, belong to Mike Washington. I’d add the LV handcuff as a priority stash if anyone sees Jeanty’s +80% backfield and decides it’s a lost cause to hold onto his backup.
As far as pass catchers go, it’s the Brock Bowers show. In his first game of 2026, the two-time John Mackey Award winner went bananas, posting a (10-116-1) stat line on otherworldly advanced metrics (40.0% target/route, 3.31 yards/route). Whoa. However, I wouldn’t discard my other Raiders assets just yet — Las Vegas ran the most +2-TE sets in Week 3 by almost 30%! At over 80% 12-personnel, Michael Mayer ran the second-most routes on the team without affecting WR1 Tre Tucker’s opportunity load much. Both should still be considered viable fantasy assets going forward.
- Start: Ashton Jeanty (RB9), Brock Bowers (TE1), Michael Mayer (TE28)
- Sit: Kirk Cousins (QB24), Jalen Nailor (WR69)
- Sleeper: Tre Tucker (WR42)
Next Week's Bold Headline, Today
Chiefs win a close one for the second time in a row, but the main takeaway is clear … these Raiders are for real and poised for their first postseason appearance in five years if this keeps up.
