It may be the lowest Week 1 total, but I’m not the only one who thinks there may be more here than meets the eye — count me in lockstep with the FL Game Model’s three-star play to the over.

After 58 tear-soaked years, filled to the brim with never-ending heartbreak and gut-wrenching aggravation, the New York Jets will try once more to bring a Super Bowl trophy home to Gang Green’s faithful. Yes, I’m fully aware this is never going to happen — but as a lifetime Jet fan, it’s the one week we allow ourselves to dream. Kidding aside, the Jets are re-tooled and looking like a representative squad on offense for the first time in a long time.

Reunited, and it feels so good. Any Jets resurgence begins with veteran QB Geno Smith, who played last year despite being terrible; it was also anomalous on its face when compared to the five seasons prior. Since resuming a starter’s role in 2020, Geno’s stint with the Raiders last year was the first time he’s logged a negative EPA/dropback, passer rating below 93, or interception rate north of 2.5%. He’s not that bad.

To be clear, I’m not betting on some magical Geno Smith MVP run; I just believe he’s markedly better than last year’s Vegas debacle — and a return to even near-average play would be a gigantic boost for the Jets. Scoff all you like, there’s enough talent at their skill positions to wildly outperform all baseline team scoring projections.

New York’s set up to be a fantasy player’s dream, if this sort of telegraphed consolidation continues with at least replacement-level QB play. OC Frank Reich already labeled both Breece Hall and Garrett Wilson as “bellcows” in a recent presser while HC Aaron Glenn said of Hall, “Breece is a guy that, man, he's a true three-down back”. Music to our ears …

Speaking of Hall, only four players accounted for a higher percentage of their team’s scrimmage yards (29.0%) — and every one of them’s a first-round fantasy pick. RB1 season loading, starting Sunday.

Garrett Wilson’s potentially in line for career-bests across the board as part of a battery with the best QB he’s played with. Already averaging just over nine targets/game across his career (!), imagine adding just a smidge of efficiency as the green cherry on top.

Aiding the chances of this realistically happening is WR Adonai Mitchell. The former second-round Longhorn admittedly experienced ups and downs in his short career, though never related to talent. Initially just a throw-in to get the Sauce Gardner deal done, Mitchell played exceptionally well for NYJ, considering the circumstances — earning a very robust 23.8% target/route with just over 102 air yards per game.

Factor in a non-zero chance for a stylistic match made in heaven of Geno’s deep ball plus AD’s ability to win downfield, and there’s serious sleeper potential here. He’s one of my favorite sneaky Week 1 flex starts against a leaky Titans secondary that allowed the most pass yards per attempt (8.2) and the fourth-most +20-yard completions in 2025 (58).

  • Start: Breece Hall (RB15), Garrett Wilson (WR18)
  • Sit: Kenyon Sadiq (TE35), Omar Cooper Jr. (WR87)
  • Sleeper: Adonai Mitchell (WR57)

I used up most of my digital real estate on the Jets on purpose, because you will not and can not get me to recommend a single Titan in nearly any scenario. Honestly felt like I was taking crazy pills when TEN opened with a 6.5 win total, then had it solidified when the number stayed there. Could be me, but I promise at the very least, it has nothing to do with the Jets. Tennessee’s on my banned list.

As an NFL modeler and handicapper, I can tell you nothing serves as a better descriptor of true team talent than differentials, particularly yards/play (-1.4), yards/pass attempt (-2.5), and explosive play rate differentials (-4.5%). Well, wouldn’t you know it, the Titans finished dead last in all three by a country mile. Two words: abandon ship …

To be fair, what was Tennessee’s answer to an offensive line ranking bottom-5 in yards before contact/rush (1.12) and sacks allowed (52)? Did they trade down out of the four-hole to rebuild the trenches? Nope! Why, it’s a vanity pick of a wide receiver! Like my mom used to say to me, “Sometimes you can’t fix stupid”.

Entering 2026 as the consensus 31st O-line, the Titans will be constantly playing from behind, without the ability to protect Cam Ward long enough for any meaningful routes to develop. Then there’s always a chance the former number one overall pick fails to take the necessary steps to elevate teammates from such a bad spot. Ward’s 11.0 fantasy points/game tied for dead last with Shedeur Sanders among all starters, so there’s your floor — the literal bottom of the barrel. Carnell Tate’s talented, but may get dragged down by a miserable surrounding environment.

Perhaps if forced into a fire, you could convince me to start the recipients of any high-probability throws underneath, namely Wan’Dale Robinson or Tyjae Spears. Fine, New York’s defense remains shaky at best. However, they are returning starters from in-season injuries, as well as adding two top-50 picks (LB David Bailey, CB D'Angelo Ponds) into the fold.

Maybe I’m drinking too much green Kool-Aid expecting anything positive from my J-E-T-S; who knows — Mark them down as outright winners, and look pretty good while they do it.

  • Start: Wan'Dale Robinson (WR43), Tony Pollard (RB30)
  • Sit: Carnell Tate (WR39), Cam Ward (QB28)
  • Sleeper: Tyjae Spears (RB40)

Next Week’s Bold Headlines, Today

  • J-E-T-S! JETS! JETS! JETS! New York wins outright as a road dog (even if the defense still stinks).
  • Adonai Mitchell secures NYJ’s downfield role and smashes his first of many longest reception props this year.
  • Tennessee confirms my worst doubts for 60 minutes, forcing me to wonder if I should’ve bet more on them for fewest wins at (+1700).
