Patrick Mahomes To Play Week 1? Plus More Offseason News Impacting Fantasy Football

In today's Fantasy Life Newsletter, presented by Hims.

We are all starved for actionable fantasy news right now. This is truly a dead zone where most of the “reports” are largely conjecture from beat reporters.

But if I am going to be swayed, I want it to be from hearing the same positive buzz over and over. A steady drumbeat, if you will, as Sigmund Bloom is fond of saying.

Here are a few nuggets that bubbled up recently and confirm earlier reports …

Offseason News Impacting Fantasy Football

Patrick Mahomes is going to play Week 1. There was skepticism immediately following his injury, but we continue to get positive reports. Hell, the NFL had no issue scheduling him for Week 1 primetime (MNF). He remains a great value in drafts—especially with the Rashee Rice “stuff” clearing up in tandem.

Stefon Diggs to the Commanders feels more and more likely at this point. It’s a great fit on paper for both parties. His ADP will rise multiple rounds if this does come to fruition, so pack your bags now if you are currently drafting.

The Packers expect a Year 2 leap from Matthew Golden. I get why Jayden Reed goes ahead of Golden in drafts, but Golden is the favorite to play in 2-WR sets with Christian Watson and the team seems extremely committed to making it work with him. He remains a big target for me once you hit the triple digits.

The Dolphins WR1 is probably Greg Dulcich … There are a million question marks at WR, but the one constant throughout this offseason has been that Dulcich will likely be the No. 1 option for Malik Willis. He’s a very solid late-round TE selection.

What Really Matters In Finding TE Production?

We often hear that the Tight End position is different from all others, and that their timeline to break out is nothing like with other skill players. For every Brock Bowers who broke fantasy as a rookie, there are so many others who took years before having a big season. Or they did not live up to their expectations at all.

Dwain McFarland continues his positional series—his Tiers articles on Quarterbacks and Running Backs are must reads—with the Tight Ends. What’s the most important stat? Can a TE from a bad passing offense excel? Can breakout TEs repeat? Dwain answered all these and so much more as we turn our attention to the engines that make 13 personnel go. ⤵️
