Week 2 Fantasy Football Rankings: Who I'm Higher & Lower On Than Expert Consensus Rankings

Alex Cupps compares his Week 2 fantasy football rankings to Fantasy Life's expert consensus rankings, profiling who he is higher/lower on than the consensus.

Published

Welcome to the second in-season edition of Cupps’ Cupboard! Every Friday this season, I’ll be dropping my overall strategy for the upcoming week of games—players I’m higher/lower on than consensus in our Week 2 fantasy football rankings, and the biggest things I’ll be keeping my eye on.

As someone who primarily leverages data to make decisions in fantasy football, my rankings are created using a blend of several inputs:

  • FantasyLife weekly projections, adjusted using fantasy football DvP rankings
  • Prediction market data (essentially taking the current prices on various yardage, touchdowns, receptions, etc. to create implied fantasy point projections)
  • Vegas prop lines (rush/rec yards + receptions for pass catchers, pass/rush yards for quarterbacks)

Using these sources as a baseline, I create my own hybrid projection system for each position. Let’s get right into it.

Quarterbacks I'm Higher On Than Consensus Week 2 Fantasy Rankings - The Studs

SF_49ers-logo.svgBrock Purdy

  • Fantasy Life: QB6
  • My Rank: QB3 (+3)

It’s hard to imagine more of a dream matchup for Purdy in Week 2. He gets the Dolphins at home, who rank 29th in DvP against QBs (+2.11 FPPG on average). Everything looks great across the board. He comes in as Fantasy Life’s projected QB4 when adjusting for matchup and the implied QB3 in the prediction market data.

GB_packers-logo.svgJordan Love

  • Fantasy Life: QB16
  • My Rank: QB10 (+6)

Similarly to Purdy … Jordan Love draws a beautiful matchup in Week 2 against the Jets—dead last in DvP against QBs, giving up an average of 3.57 (!!!) more points per game.

He projects as the QB6 in Fantasy Life’s DvP-adjusted rankings this week, and the market loves Love too—prediction market data has him as the QB8, and his Vegas base projection (pass + rush prop lines minus TDs, essentially a floor gauge) has him at QB7. Fire up Love as a solid QB1 this week.

QBs I'm Lower On Than Consensus Week 2 Fantasy Football Rankings - The Duds

JAC_jaguars-logo.svgTrevor Lawrence

  • Fantasy Life: QB14
  • My Rank: QB18 (-4)

On the flip side of the previous two guys, Trevor Lawrence draws one of the worst matchups in Week 2. The Denver Broncos rank 2nd in DvP against QBs, allowing nearly 2.4 fewer points per game on average.

Even though we saw him light it up in Week 1, Lawrence does not project like a QB1 this week. FL’s DvP-adjusted projections have him as the QB24, at a measly 14.4 points (4-pt passing TD). The market is on the same page—prediction markets have him as the implied QB20, and his Vegas base projection comes in as the QB20 as well.

LAC_chargers-logo.svgJustin Herbert

  • Fantasy Life: QB8
  • My Rank: QB11 (-3)

One would hope this matchup against the Raiders—23rd in DvP against QBs (+0.78PPG)—would be one Herbert could thrive in. I’d really like to think so too, but considering we just saw him put up a stinker against the 26th-ranked Arizona Cardinals in Week 1 … I’m not so sure.

FL’s DvP-adjusted projections are promising, putting him at QB8 for the week. However, the market is cold on Herbert after Week 1—prediction market data has him at QB16, and a Vegas base projection tied with Trevor Lawrence all the way down at QB20. Oof.

Running Backs I'm Higher On Than Consensus Week 2 Fantasy Rankings - The Studs

NYJ_jets-logo.svgBreece Hall

  • Fantasy Life: RB14
  • My Rank: RB12 (+2)

Once again, I am here to inform you that I am higher on Breece Hall than my fellow coworkers. While Fantasy Life’s DvP-adjusted projections have him all the way down at RB18, the market is much more optimistic. His implied prediction market projection puts him at RB10, and his Vegas base projection at RB9. I am once again firing up Hall as a backend RB1 in week 2.

GB_packers-logo.svgMarShawn Lloyd

  • Fantasy Life: RB27
  • My Rank: RB24 (+3)

I know last week was rough for Lloyd and the entire Packers run game. But I think we learned more about how absolutely nasty Minnesota’s defensive line is (I’ll warn you about D’Andre Swift in a minute) than we did about Lloyd’s outlook in 2026 w/ Jacobs sidelined.

The Vikings and Jets couldn’t be more different when it comes to opposing running back fantasy success. The Jets rank 32nd in DvP against backs, letting up +3.24 more points per game on average. This puts Lloyd’s DvP-adjusted projections at RB15 for the week.

Prediction markets and Vegas are both bullish on Lloyd in Week 2, where he projects as the RB18 and RB15, respectively.

RBs I'm Lower On Than Consensus Week 2 Fantasy Football Rankings - The Duds

LAC_chargers-logo.svgOmarion Hampton

  • Fantasy Life: RB12
  • My Rank: RB16 (-4)

Last week I wrote up being lower on Hampton than consensus, and I felt absolutely terrified to do so. He projected as a top-3 RB on paper against one of the worst defenses in the league…but, for whatever reason, the market HATED him.

I didn’t get it at the time … but that’s why I incorporate market data into my rankings. The house always wins, and the market as a whole does a scary good job at predicting stuff on average.

That said, I am once again coming in lower than consensus on Hampton. This time, all the data I’m looking at is lower on him this week: DvP-adjusted Fantasy Life projections have him at RB16, which is exactly where prediction market data puts him as well. His Vegas base (floor) projection is a measly 6.5HPPR points, putting him at RB18. Proceed with caution once again here.

CHI_bears-logo.svgD’Andre Swift

  • Fantasy Life: RB18
  • My Rank: RB28 (-10)

I know it feels clinically insane to rank the guy who is currently sitting as the RB3 after putting up 32 points in Week 1 as the RB28. Unfortunately, I’m a sick, sick individual, and I’m not looking for a cure.

I think there’s a high probability we end up considering the Vikings defense one of the most effective run-stopping units in the league this season. They currently rank 8th in DvP against RBs (-1.31PPG on average), and I think this number is only going lower.

The sad truth is—Swift just straight-up projects poorly in Week 2. FantasyLife’s DvP-adjusted projections have him as the RB30. If it’s any solace, he does come in a bit higher in prediction market data and Vegas base projections, which put him at RB15 and RB22 respectively.

Are you benching Swift in Week 2? I’d say no; you don’t want to get too cute. Just temper expectations here.

Wide Receivers I'm Higher On Than Consensus Week 2 Fantasy Rankings - The Studs

WAS_commanders-logo.svgStefon Diggs

  • Fantasy Life ECR: WR32
  • My Rank: WR29 (+3)

Diggs draws an awesome matchup in Week 2. The Cowboys are 31st in DvP against WRs, allowing +3.28 more points on average to the position per game. Even factoring in this DvP adjustment, Fantasy Life projects him as the WR34 for the week—quite a bit lower than the market. Prediction market data has Diggs as WR27, and his Vegas base (floor) projects as the WR22. I’m firing up Diggs as a high-end WR3 with confidence.

NO_saints-logo.svgDevaughn Vele

  • FantasyLife ECR: WR50
  • My Rank: WR41 (+9)

For two weeks in a row, Devaughn Vele comes in as one of my favorite sneaky starts. Similar to Diggs, he projects significantly worse at Fantasy Life than he does in the markets—FL has him as the DvP-adjusted WR54, while prediction markets put him all the way up at WR36 and his Vegas base puts him at WR31.

I’m thinking we might just be able to throw Vele in our starting lineups weekly as a low-end WR3/high-end WR4 until Jordyn Tyson returns.

WRs I'm Lower On Than Consensus Week 2 Fantasy Football Rankings - The Duds

ATL_falcons-logo.svgDrake London

  • Fantasy Life ECR: WR18
  • My Rank: WR27 (-9)

It truly brings me no joy being down on one of my favorite WRs in the entire league, but I’m afraid this is going to be the new normal until Penix returns from injury.

The Falcons play the Panthers in Week 2, ranking 20th in DvP against WRs—no real impact on weekly averages at the position. London’s Fantasy Life projection puts him at WR21, but prediction market data has him all the way down at WR30—an implied score of only 8.1 half-PPR points. Not what you like to see from the stud WR you just drafted in the mid-second round.

PIT_steelers-logo.svgMichael Pittman

  • Fantasy Life ECR: WR39
  • My Rank: WR54 (-15)

Pittman is another guy that Fantasy Life is projecting way higher than the market this week. The Steelers play the Patriots, a good matchup for WRs on paper (29th in DvP, +2.88 points per game on average). This puts Pittman as the WR26 in FL’s DvP-adjusted ranks.

On the flip side, the market couldn’t be more bearish on his outlook in Week 2. He comes in as the implied WR47 using prediction market data, and he has an O/U receiving line of 35.5 yards in Vegas. A couple of WRs around this prop yardage:

  • Caleb Douglas (37.5)
  • DeMario Douglas (36.5)
  • Mack Hollins (36.5)
  • Adonai Mitchell (34.5)

Not someone I’m super excited to get into my lineup in week 2.

Tight End I'm Higher On Than Consensus Week 2 Fantasy Rankings - The Stud

NE_patriots-logo.svgHunter Henry

  • Fantasy Life ECR: TE18
  • My Rank: TE13 (+5)

With A.J. Brown out, the data points to Hunter Henry being a key beneficiary of this extra work. While Fantasy Life’s DvP-adjusted projections don’t love him (TE22), the market data is super bullish. Prediction market data projects him as the TE10, and his Vegas base production has him right there at TE10 as well.

If you’re looking for a flyer TE off waivers this week, Henry would be my guy.

TE I'm Lower On Than Consensus Week 2 Fantasy Rankings - The Dud

IND_colts-logo.svgTyler Warren

  • Fantasy Life ECR: TE3
  • My Rank: TE6 (-3)

The gap isn’t massive here between TE3 and TE6 projections-wise. In all honesty, it’s a super tight cluster no matter how you slice it —TE3 through TE8 all have Vegas yardage props between 47.5 and 45.5 yards.

That said, Warren projects toward the bottom of the cluster in most areas. Fantasy Life’s DvP-adjusted projections put him at TE7, and prediction market data has him at TE6. The one silver lining? His Vegas base/floor projection puts him at TE3.

I view Warren as one of the safer floor plays this week, but I question how high the upside really is here.
