DraftKings NFL DFS Picks For Bills vs. Lions Showdown Slate: Target Jameson Williams As High-Upside CPT Play

Jason Cohen breaks down how to approach the fantasy-friendly Bills vs. Lions Thursday Night Football game for the DraftKings NFL DFS Showdown slate.

We are on to Week 2 of the NFL regular season. Opening week was exciting, as we saw a lot of scoring across many games! I feel like the regular season usually opens up with lower scoring, so it was nice to see a lot of TDs being scored right out of the gate. We start off Week 2 with the Detroit Lions traveling to Buffalo to take on the Bills for Thursday night's showdown.

I'm going to break down the TNF DraftKings NFL DFS picks for this game. I'll first highlight some players that I want to target in the captain spot, who get a 1.5x FP boost. High-upside players are who you want to target at the captain spot, and getting them lower-owned is also a plus. I will then break down some flex plays that I like to round out your lineups. Let's dive into it!

Captain Picks For DraftKings NFL DFS Bills vs. Lions Showdown Slate

Jahmyr Gibbs ($18,000): Let's start with Gibbs. The highest-priced player on this showdown, and that is to no one's surprise. Gibbs seems to be the clear top fantasy option in the entire NFL. He is on the field at almost all times and getting the ball any chance he can get. His effectiveness down the field, as well as opportunity given to score in the red zone, makes him look great every week. Even at his high price tag, he still projects as a top point per dollar on the slate, which even further solidifies his spot as a top play on the slate. It is a slate with thin value, so getting to him at CPT means losing a higher projected flex play. That is the risk to weigh here with Gibbs at CPT.

James Cook ($14,100): Next, let's look at the lead back for the Bills. James Cook gets a matchup here where the Bills are 4.5-point favorites, making this a prime position to see a few more carries. He's coming off of a down Week 1 performance, where he saw just 13 carries for 57 yards against a tough Houston defense. This is a much better, up-tempo matchup, and Cook will be looking to bounce back here. He comes off of a league-leading rushing year in 2025, and it all looks as though looks like he will get back on track to compete for that again! I like him at CPT in a bounceback spot here.

Jameson Williams ($11,100): Another player to target in a bounceback spot here is Jameson Williams. He’s coming off of a 4 rec, 45-yard game against the Saints last week. He saw a very promising 9 targets and had a couple of drops that turned a potential smash Week 1 performance into a letdown, ultimately. He saw near the top of the league in air yards and has definitely solidified his role here for the Lions. I love getting to Jameson Williams in spots where people are not talking about him as much as they should be. He is one of the highest upside players in the league, and I love taking that shot here vs. the Bills.

FLEX Plays For Bills vs. Lions DraftKings NFL DFS Showdown Slate

Jared Goff ($9,600): Let's start the flex plays with Jared Goff. Goff gets a favorable matchup in this showdown vs. the Bills. The Lions should be trailing here, only raising the passing upside for the Lions. He's coming off a barely respectable Week 1 performance, throwing for 206 yards and 2 touchdowns. Gibbs stole the show in week 1, totalling 186 yards and 2 touchdowns. We can expect that to come back to earth a bit and fall more into the hands of Goff and the receiving crew here. Goff looks like a solid click here and is also a viable captain with the right surrounding pieces in the flex spots.

Sam LaPorta ($5,400): Another flex mention that almost made the cut for captain picks is Sam LaPorta. He's coming in at a price that is just too cheap here. He showed out in Week 1, hauling in 5 receptions on 8 targets, for 48 yards. He and Jameson Williams are the clear 2nd and 3rd receiving options here for Goff, and this is a game with a lot of passing upside. This should bode well for Laporta. I expect him to get a good deal of ownership here, which makes sense, and doesn't affect him as a flex play. This ownership may carry into the captain spot, however, which is why I left him off that list. I'd prefer to go to some lower-owned options there.

Filling Out The Rest Of Your DraftKings NFL DFS Showdown Lineup For Bills vs. Lions

This showdown comes with a lot of pricey options here, where multiple are necessary for lineup building in this game. This leaves the last spot or two of your lineup with little salary to work with.

To start, the kickers are both in play here: Jake Bates ($4,800) and Tyler Bass( $5,000). Kickers are always safe options and are great fill-in pieces to your lineup. Slight lean to Bass if picking one.

Below the kickers, it is really ugly. Any player that is going to touch the field becomes a playable option down there. Some viable options include Joshua Palmer ($3,200), Dawson Knox ($2,800), and Brock Wright ($1,800). It is super ugly down here, and I don't mind just going to the cheapest option of the three (or even someone cheaper) to unlock upside in the rest of your lineup. However, going to a well-projected cheaper captain, such as Kincaid or LaPorta, can allow you to avoid these bottom guys and round out ur lineup going no lower than the kickers. This is a tough choice to make, and it comes down to your perception of the game and players.

We get a super high-total, exciting game here to start Week 2. There is a ton of star power in this game, and a lot of upside for massive performances. It's a showdown with little playable value, so it does make lineup construction a little tricky. You can play a more balanced build with a cheaper captain, and keep the floor of your lineup higher. Or, you can get to a couple of the spend-ups, and forfeit the bottom of your lineup to a cheap player that may only get a few snaps. Good luck in lineup building. Let's cash some lineups and enjoy this exciting TNF matchup!
