NFL DFS Tournament (GPP) Plays For Week 8: Justin Jefferson, Kyler Murray & More
Jason Cohen breaks down his favorite NFL DFS tournament plays for the Week 8 Sunday main slate.
Week 8 of the NFL season is here. There are 11 games for us to break down for this Sunday's NFL DFS main slate on DraftKings and FanDuel. I'm going to break down the NFL DFS Tournament (GPP) plays that I like on this slate.
This could be a QB and receiver stack that I like, a sneaky RB in a good spot, or a standalone WR/TE. The goal here is to find players who will be under 10% owned. Getting different with these players allows you to get to safer and higher-owned pieces across the rest of your lineup. Let's dive into it!
DraftKings and FanDuel NFL DFS Week 8 Tournament (GPP) Plays
Kyler Murray - MIN QB ($5,600 DraftKings, $7,400 FanDuel)/Justin Jefferson - MIN WR ($7,100 DraftKings, $7,900 FanDuel)
To start GPP plays, I love getting to this Vikings stack against the Lions. Minnesota is 6-0, but the offense has been the weak link, ranking 29th, and Kyler Murray's season high is only 247 passing yards. Ownership is low on this stack every week. Last week he went 14/24 for 150 yards and a touchdown against the Colts.
Murray can also get it done with his legs, with 16 rushing attempts for 67 yards in the two games before that. Justin Jefferson led the Vikings with 7 targets and 44 yards last week, and he is still looking for his first 100-yard game of the season. He has been held under 60 yards in three of his five games, but Jefferson is due for a breakout against a Lions secondary that has been struggling. I'm going back to the well here with this stack.
Amon-Ra St. Brown - DET WR ($8,000 DraftKings, $8,500 FanDuel)
On the other side of the Vikings game, I like Amon-Ra St. Brown. He is coming off a season-high 9 catches for 153 yards in the win over the Packers last week. St. Brown had a touchdown in each of his first three games, and he was averaging 11.4 targets per game going into last week.
This isn't the easiest matchup against a Vikings defense that sends extra pressure on 70.4% of snaps, but that blitz-heavy approach should lead to quick throws, which is right in the wheelhouse of Amon-Ra. The Lions are also 3-0 at home this season. His ceiling is as high as anyone's on the slate, and I like getting to him in GPPs, pairing him with that Vikings stack!
Drake Maye - NE QB ($6,500 DraftKings, $8,200 FanDuel)/A.J. Brown - NE WR ($5,900 DraftKings, $6,500 FanDuel)
Next up, I like getting to a Patriots stack against the Dolphins. Drake Maye has been playing like an elite quarterback since Week 4 after a rough start, and last week he went 24/31 for 321 yards, 2 touchdowns, and an interception in the loss to the Bears. He also added 4 carries for 26 yards and a rushing touchdown. That is his second 300-yard game of the season, and he had a rushing score for the third time.
A.J. Brown is the piece I like most for the stack. He has been a disappointment since returning from his high ankle sprain, catching just 3 passes for 48 yards on 6 targets last week, but he did have 142 air yards on those targets and couldn't bring in a deep ball in tight coverage. Brown also had a drop problem the week before, but the usage is there with a 22% target share. After 10 days of rest between games, he should be in a great spot to finally get a ceiling game. This is a good matchup here to get some momentum going for Brown.
Breece Hall - NYJ RB ($6,000 DraftKings, $7,000 FanDuel)
To end off my GPP plays, I'm going to take a shot on Breece Hall. Hall has missed the last four games with a quad injury, suffered in Week 3 against the Lions, and was inactive last week against the Dolphins after being questionable. Braelon Allen has filled in nicely as the lead back, but before getting hurt, Hall averaged more than 3 catches per game and had a 43-yard reception. I think some may have uncertainty in his workload here, but there was coach speak about reminding people he is their RB1, and I fully expect him to pick up where he left off if he's able to return here.
