DraftKings NFL DFS Picks For Packers vs. Panthers TNF Showdown Slate
Jason Cohen breaks down the optimal way to build your DraftKings NFL DFS showdown lineup for Week 8's Thursday Night Football tilt between the Packers and Panthers at Lambeau Field.
Week 8 of the NFL season is here. We are starting the week off with a Thursday Night Football matchup between the Carolina Panthers and Green Bay Packers. The Packers are 3.5-point favorites in a 47.5-point total at home. This should be an exciting close game!
I'm going to break down the DraftKings NFL DFS picks for the Packers vs. Panthers showdown slate. First, I'll highlight some players that I want to target in the captain spot, who get a 1.5x FP boost. High-upside players are who I want to target here, and the lower the ownership, the better. I will then break down some flex position plays that I like to round out your lineups. Let's dive into it!
Week 8 TNF GB vs CAR DraftKings NFL DFS Showdown Picks
DraftKings NFL DFS Captain Picks
Chuba Hubbard - CAR RB ($13,500): Hubbard is the first captain pick that I want to mention. With Jonathon Brooks on injured reserve, Hubbard has been the clear lead back in Carolina. Last week was a complete abomination for the Panthers, so I'm not looking at that bad performance as what's to come this week. He only got 7 carries because they were playing from behind, and he averaged 4.7 yards per carry. Carolina is a road underdog here, and I like Hubbard's involvement in the passing game, which gives him a nice floor if they end up chasing points again. He's projected as the highest-owned captain along with Jordan Love.
Josh Jacobs - GB RB ($13,200): Next, I'm going to mention Josh Jacobs. He made his season debut last week against the Lions, rushing 11 times for 36 yards and catching 5 passes for 55 yards and a 25-yard touchdown. I expect him to be a lot more comfortable with a game under his belt and be much more involved. This matchup is great. The Panthers gave up 258 rushing yards and 3 rushing touchdowns to the Buccaneers last week, the second time this season they have allowed that. I think people are a little wary of Jacobs and not accustomed to him being back, and not sure of his workload. This makes me like him at what will probably be less ownership than it should be.
Matthew Golden - GB WR ($12,600): My last captain pick is Matthew Golden. He is Love's go-to option, leading the team with 69 targets and putting up 36 catches for 540 yards and 3 touchdowns through seven games. He saw 12 targets last week, but caught just 6 for 39 yards. He had 123 yards in Week 5 and 104 yards and a touchdown in Week 6. The Panthers are also extremely thin in the secondary, with Jaycee Horn on injured reserve and Akayleb Evans out, leaving them with only two healthy corners on the roster. Golden is questionable, but assuming he plays, I like getting to him here at the captain spot!
Flex Picks For DraftKings NFL DFS Packers vs. Panthers Showdown Slate
Jordan Love - GB QB ($10,000): To start off flex plays, I'm going to Jordan Love. Last week he went 27/45 for 274 yards, 2 touchdowns, and an interception against the Lions. He's looked great and has been one of the best QBs in the entire NFL as we approach the midway point of the season. QBs have just been too cheap on SDs, making them look like great flex plays. I like Bryce Young as well, but prefer Love if just picking one.
Jalen Coker - CAR WR ($7,800): Coker is someone I like in the midrange here. He had a big start to the year with 18 catches for 222 yards and 2 touchdowns in his first three games, including 8 catches for 138 yards and 2 touchdowns against the Bears in Week 1. After missing a game with a quad injury, he came back in Week 6 and had 13 targets, catching 6 of them for 97 yards. Last week was a dud with just 1 catch for 9 yards on 4 targets, but he played 66% of the snaps in the blowout loss. Coker is a big part of the Panthers' passing game, and I like him to bounce back here, especially if Carolina is playing from behind. We get a nice discount on him compared to McMillan.
Savion Williams - GB WR ($4,400): To end off my flex plays, I'm going to look at Williams. He began the season on injured reserve with an ankle injury and was activated just last week. In his two games back, he has caught all 7 of his targets for 79 yards. He has made some key plays, including a 20-yard completion to move the chains last week and a catch on a 4th-and-5 to keep a drive alive. He is a key target for Jordan Love, and he is getting more involved in the offense. I think he will pick up some ownership as he has been getting more and more involved, but I still don't think it will be enough.
