NFL DFS Value Plays For Week 9: Devin Singletary, Jonah Coleman & More
Jason Cohen breaks down his favorite NFL DFS value plays for both DraftKings and FanDuel to help you save salary on the Week 9 main slate.
We are in Week 9 of the NFL season. We get 11 games to break down for the Sunday DFS main slates on DraftKings and FanDuel. I'm going to be breaking down the top NFL DFS value plays on the slates.
These will be players who are not only in great spots, but will allow you to build out the rest of your lineup with spend-ups. Almost every week, with injuries or some mispricing, there are cheap value plays that project very well and are even cash game staples for that week. We’ve got some very enticing value pieces for us this week; let's get into it!
DraftKings and FanDuel NFL DFS Value Plays For Week 9
Devin Singletary - NYG RB ($4,600 DraftKings, $5,200 FanDuel)
Starting this week's value plays is an injury beneficiary in Devin Singletary. Cam Skattebo missed practice on both Wednesday and Thursday, and he is reportedly unlikely to play against the Eagles. Tyrone Tracy is on injured reserve with his own hamstring injury, and the Giants have cut Najee Harris, which leaves Singletary and Greg Desrosiers as the only healthy running backs on the roster.
Singletary is a veteran who showed what he can do in Week 7, with 5 carries for 41 yards and the 30-yard overtime touchdown that beat the Texans, as well as 3 catches for 14 yards. If Skattebo is out, Singletary looks to be in line for a near bellcow role. Make sure to check the final injury report, but he is a great value if Skattebo sits.
Jonah Coleman - DEN RB ($5,300 DraftKings, $6,300 FanDuel)
Next, we get a rookie running back out of Denver. With RJ Harvey placed on injured reserve with a knee injury, Jonah Coleman has taken over the Broncos' backfield. He played 66% of the snaps in Week 8, and finished with 15 touches for 104 yards and a touchdown, rushing 11 times for 41 yards and catching 4 of his 5 targets for 63 yards, including a 51-yard catch-and-run on the game-winning drive. J.K. Dobbins only had 7 carries for 13 yards, and played just 21% of the snaps.
This was the second week in a row that Coleman led the backfield, as he also had 9 carries for 54 yards in his return from injured reserve in Week 7. The Panthers have been one of the best matchups for opposing running backs this season, allowing 115 rushing yards per game and close to 1.5 rushing touchdowns. He is too cheap here.
Antonio Williams - WAS WR ($4,100 DraftKings, $5,500 FanDuel)
With Terry McLaurin out for the season with a torn patellar tendon, Antonio Williams has stepped into the WR1 role. In the first game without McLaurin, Williams led the Commanders with 7 targets, catching 5 for 54 yards in the win over the Eagles. He led the receivers in snaps with 50 and in routes with 29, and his route share hit a career-high 88.6%. That came with a career-high 25.9% target share. He is mostly working in the short area of the field, which makes him a nice floor play in PPR formats. The Rams have been good against wide receivers, so this isn't a smash spot, but the volume is what I like at this price.
Efton Chism - NE WR ($3,600 DraftKings, $5,100 FanDuel)
A.J. Brown has been ruled out for Week 9 with an ankle and knee injury, and the Patriots are already without Romeo Doubs and Mack Hollins, leaving DeMario Douglas, Kyle Williams and Efton Chism as the only healthy receivers on the active roster. TreVeyon Henderson is also out, and tight end Hunter Henry is questionable. Chism drew the start last week against the Dolphins and caught all 5 of his targets for 37 yards. With this little depth, Chism should see a lot of snaps against the Packers, and he is a very cheap way to get exposure to the Patriots' passing game.
Dalton Schultz - HOU TE ($3,200 DraftKings, $5,100 FanDuel)
To end off, we have a tight end in Dalton Schultz. He leads the Texans with 33 catches on 43 targets for 322 yards through seven games, and had 12 catches for 140 yards in Week 2 when Nico Collins was out.
Schultz still hasn't found the end zone this season, but he caught 9 passes on 12 targets over the two games before the bye, including 5 catches on 6 targets for 45 yards against the Giants. Houston is also without Jaylin Noel, who went to injured reserve with a toe injury, which opens up some targets. The Chargers are 0-7 and have given up 6.0 catches and 52.4 yards per game to tight ends this season. Schultz is a safe, cheap tight end option that lets you spend up elsewhere.
Week 9 has some nice value, with a lot of it coming from injuries. Keep an eye on the injury reports for Cam Skattebo, A.J. Brown, and Hunter Henry as we get closer to lock, as more value could open up. There are a lot of good ways to get cheap pieces and spend up elsewhere.
