Dynasty Superflex 2-Round Rookie Mock Draft: Falling For Ty Simpson

Jake Trowbridge analyzes his latest two-round dynasty superflex rookie mock draft, noting players moving up and down the board.

It’s been a few weeks since my last rookie mock draft, and while there haven’t been any massive changes in the rookie landscape (this is dynasty, after all), a few news items caught my attention and pushed me to make some slight alterations.

So if your league still hasn’t completed its rookie draft, or even if you’re just itching to make some rookie trades, take a peak at the highlights below to see which rookies have risen or fallen.

If you’d like deeper pick-by-pick analysis, you can read my previous three-round mock here. Let’s get to it …

Superflex Rookie Dynasty Mock Draft

Round 1

Hey, can we cool it with the injury scares for this group?

Makai Lemon has a hamstring injury. Jordyn Tyson was limited at OTAs. Kenyon Sadiq had a hernia surgery. If something happens to Jermiyah Love, I swear I’m going to freak RIGHT OUT.

…deep breath. OK, let’s remember our credo: “This is dynasty, and if you overreact in dynasty, you die nasty.”

The Eagles don’t sound concerned about Lemon’s injury, and he should be good to go for training camp. But soft tissue issues are no joke, and this is the closest I’ve come to dropping Lemon from his perch atop this WR class (yes, even now that the A.J. Brown trade is a done deal).

Frankly, I’m starting to worry that my tombstone will one day read: “Here lies the foremost Makai Lemon enthusiast. He actually died on that hill.” But hey, when you find yourself on an island, sometimes you just have to sit back and enjoy the surplus of coconuts.

With Tyson, we knew about his recent injury history. It’s not surprising that the team that used high draft capital on him has decided to bring him along slowly. Let’s not double count this.

So the only true movement in this round occurred with the rookie tight ends. I was already dangerously close to flipping Kenyon Sadiq and Eli Stowers in my previous mock, and the hernia news inched me over the line.

On one hand, the dude played through a hernia last season, which makes his performance even more impressive. On the other, even though it’s a minor surgery, a rookie as raw as Sadiq missing any practice time in his first offseason is a bummer. It was already a longshot to see the developmental tight end hit the ground running with the Jets, and this might provide one more impediment to that. Fast starts also mean a lot more in dynasty than they used to, especially for rookie tight ends.

Round 2

This looks like a lot of movement, but it really comes down to two main things: Ty Simpson has been thrust into a tornado of fantasy-relevant headlines, and Ted Hurst is winning me over.

First, the big one: [Chandler Bing voice] Could the Rams BE more all-in? First, they extend Matthew Stafford for another year, keeping him with the team through 2027. Then, they send a bunch of picks (including next year’s first) and Jared Verse to get Myles Garrett on the team.

In a recent dynasty mailbag, I answered a question about Simpson’s changing dynasty value by saying “I don’t see that much distance between him and Carson Beck.” Keep in mind, I wrote that after the Stafford extension but before the Garrett trade. And honestly, the latter provided some much-needed clarity that kept Simpson from falling more than a few spots.

Outside of an injury to Stafford, Simpson will obviously have to wait even longer to see the field as the starter. BUT, the Rams giving away their first-round pick next year means that Simpson is locked in as Stafford’s successor. Maybe that was always obvious, but my initial fear with Simpson was that he’d give us no fantasy value this year AND potentially be replaced next year if he didn’t develop quickly enough.

Knowing the Rams’ “f*ck them picks” mentality, it’s not outrageous to think they might’ve traded their 2027 and 2028 picks to move up and grab their QB of the future in next year’s deeper draft class. Now? Even if he doesn’t enjoy a Jordan Love-esque trajectory, Simpson is the backup to an older QB with a history of back problems. That should keep his value steady in superflex leagues.

As for Hurst, I tried my best not to get overtaken by the offseason hype, but the rookie is getting praise hurled at him from every direction. I know it’s just OTAs. I know he’s not going to simply “replace” Mike Evans. But all the positivity surrounding Hurst was enough to bump him over two Baltimore receivers who I’m having an extremely tough time figuring out.

If you can look me in the eyes and tell me you’re confident that one of Elijah Sarratt or Ja'Kobi Lane is “the guy” to have on the Ravens roster, more power to you! But I just can’t do it.
