So deeply torn between capitulation and stubbornness, I honestly don’t know what to do with myself. As a lifetime Bryce Young game-hater, I actually caught myself staring at the wall wondering if it’s possible he’s actually the best fantasy quarterback in the NFL. No way, right? 

Well, I’ll tell you this much: don’t look to the spreadsheets for any strong statistical counterarguments. Young is currently fantasy’s QB2 behind Josh Allen, yet still 10% in front of the field for its second spot. Huh?! And for what it’s worth, if you isolate scoring to points via passing only, Young’s number one with a bullet. Boom.

Of course, not all output’s created equal. For example, a screen taken to the house on an outstanding individual effort can’t and won’t sway my quarterback analysis. However, when it comes to Young’s performance, it’s as legitimate as you could ask in such a small sample. 

Carolina’s Dave Canales and Brad Idzik overhauled their approach for 2026, deploying the highest rate of play-action dropbacks (29%) and deep-shot attempts (15%) of Young’s career. For reference, Young’s current 1.70 deepshot EPA/attempt laps the entire 2025 field by a country mile.

Carolina’s consolidated two-headed WR attack plan is already responsible for the WR5 (Jalen Coker) plus the WR19 (Tetairoa McMillan), with few signs of slowing given Cleveland’s on deck. Shutdown CB Denzel Ward may cap T-Mac’s weekly ceiling, but right now, there’s no answer for Coker’s versatility. Incorrectly labeled as a slot-only WR, the UDFA out of Holy Cross produced the vast majority of this year’s breakout, winning out wide and/or downfield. Credit where it's due.

Thankfully, the rest of the Panthers’ squad is pretty straightforward for fantasy purposes. For starters, Darren Waller’s a force in the paint, and should be thought of as a break-glass-in-case-of-emergency, TD-dependent TE streaming option once byes hit. 

Then, in a major victory for the “injury prone is real” crowd, Jonathon Brooks sadly left the game injured (shocker), totaling just 11 touches before that personal bugaboo reemerged. Reports are in, and it’s a trip to the IR for core muscle surgery — get well soon, J-Brooks. 

Chuba Hubbard had already secured the lion’s share of work, which should now ratchet up as high as he can handle in the wake of Brooks injury. AJ Dillon’s the only other Panther to see the field this season, but I doubt he’d make an impact even if awarded the role. With speedster Trevor Etienne on IR, keep an eye on any roster additions for a pathway to backup duties on what’s suddenly a prolific offense. Head on a swivel.

Am I bitter over wasting hard-earned American currency betting against the Browns in Survivor? [REDACTED] Let’s just say my mouth didn’t stop hanging open until the primetime game kicked off. What. The. Heck.

In reality, Sunday’s debacle rings more as a testament to Tampa’s incompetence, rather than some measurable level of ascendancy from these hapless Browns. Even as an admitted spreadsheet honk (I love data), it’s critical to understand precisely what stats are describing, and their inherent limitations. Definitions matter.

In this case, one analyst may quote a solid EPA/dropback (+0.20), passer rating (121.9), and completion rate (80%) as evidence of a turnaround. The problem, as always with output-based stats, is the failure to capture a certain level of nuance. What I mean is, while our hypothetical analyst used true and provable metrics, tell me if adding other, more granular qualifiers changes your outlook. Keep in mind we’re talking about a bad defense who’s already spent more than 80% of plays trailing.

In this very same “breakout” win, Watson averaged just 3.7 air yards per attempt, only 20% of passes reaching the first-down marker, WRs gaining +68% of yards after the catch, and a single, incomplete pass traveling over 20 yards in the air. Come on, talk about unsustainable. Call me a hater, I’ll wear that cape proudly.

Outside of KC Concepcion as a PPR-floor player and Denzel Boston doing his Desean Jackson impression as a boom-or-bust streamer, there’s no fantasy gold here. I’m still hanging onto Harold Fannin, although the overlapped route redundancy with Concepcion sucks up most of the volume-based value we loved in 2025. 

And the running back room? Fuhgeddaboudit! Quinshon Judkins commanded just under 80% of the backfield opportunities for a whopping 16.8 fantasy points in two games. Even after adding some meaningful pass work in Week 2, without TD equity to speak of, he’s no more than a backend flex. Guess you could always hang on to hope for a trade …
