After another jam-packed week of action, our rankers have updated their fantasy football rankings, creating massive swings in players' consensus rankings heading into week three of the preseason. Today’s edition highlights the arrival of Najee Harris and sheds light on a scary situation in Las Vegas after Ashton Jeanty went down with an ankle injury.
Fantasy Football Rankings: Who's Rising and Falling In FL Consensus
Below is a breakdown of some of the biggest swings in our consensus rankings over the last seven days, giving you a trio of names to avoid while targeting a handful of players who are showing upside as we near the start of the regular season.
Latest Fantasy Rankings Risers
Najee Harris | RB | Giants (+64)
With question marks lingering over Cam Skattebo’s durability, the New York Giants have decided to add more firepower to their RB room by signing Najee Harris to a one-year deal. With Tyrone Tracy losing ground (more on that later), Harris is projected to be the RB2 in the Giants' offense, instantly elevating him up the rankings as a valuable handcuff.
If you select Skattebo early in your draft, target Harris in the later rounds to help avoid suffering too much of a drop-off if the Giants RB has to miss some time due to injury. As a very physical runner, the likelihood of Skattebo getting injured at some point in the season is high, making it vital you grab his backup to help stay competitive.
Ja’Kobi Lane | WR | Ravens (+46)
With Lamar Jackson back at full health, the Baltimore Ravens are expected to be a juggernaut on offense, a group who consistently sits near the top of the board in Off DVOA due to their QB's versatility under center. Not only does Jackson make their ground game deadly, but he has also turned into an efficient thrower, elevating his wideouts' level of production in the process.
Enter Ja’Kobi Lane, a rookie WR who is currently listed as the WR3 on their depth chart. With Derrick Henry and Jackson pulling defensive attention to the middle, Lane will have plenty of opportunities to contribute while taking advantage of the extra space his teammates provide. If you are in a dynasty league, stash Lane on your bench, giving you a viable WR should Zay Flowers or Rashod Bateman go down with an injury (or if Bateman ends up missing time due to off-the-field concerns).
Mike Washington | RB | Raiders (+40)
Arguably no one in fantasy football has seen a bigger swing in their rankings in the last 24 hours than the Las Vegas Raiders' Mike Washington after it was reported that Ashton Jeanty went down with an injury in practice.
With Jeanty’s Week 1 availability in question, Washington could receive a heavier workload, turning him into an intriguing player to target in the later rounds. This is especially true with his fantasy football ADP starting to trickle back down after it was announced Jeanty avoided suffering a season-ending injury, making Washington worth a selection without having to pay a premium for a backup RB.
Recent Fallers In The Fantasy Football Rankings
Tyrone Tracy | RB | Giants (-38)
With Harris in the fold, Tyrone Tracy has stumbled down the Giants depth chart, forcing him to compete in a crowded backfield just to see some time on the field. When given the opportunity, Tracy underwhelmed last season, finishing the year in the bottom half of the position of all qualified RBs in yards over expected per rush attempt.
To make matters worse for Tracy, he has given the Giants little to work with throughout the preseason, averaging less than four yards per carry on eight attempts in two games. Devin Singletary was also more efficient in their latest outing against the Miami Dolphins, further plummeting Tracy’s chances of seeing the field. Unless Skattebo or Harris suffer an injury before the start of your drafts, avoid wasting a late-round pick on Tracy and target other RBs with a much higher floor while in a more favorable situation.
Alvin Kamara | RB | Saints (-26)
Alvin Kamara’s usage was already expected to drop off after the New Orleans Saints signed Travis Etienne to be their new RB1, now looking even bleaker after it was announced he will sit out for at least a month while rehabbing a strained MCL. Devin Neal has also suffered an injury, leaving Etienne and Kendre Miller as their primary options at RB.
Kamara’s injury is Etienne’s gain, avoiding having to split any carries with the veteran, which will lead to a heavier workload. With Jordyn Tyson also going down with an injury, the Saints will need to lean on Etienne to help keep their offense afloat, a group that is expected to take a step forward with their production in Tyler Shough’s second year under center.
Until we get more clarity on how Kamara will be utilized after nursing his injury, pass on him at his current ADP. Especially with Miller getting the opportunity to build a case for being their RB2 while Kamara is on the sideline, chipping away at his usage once he makes his return to the field.
Kaytron Allen | RB | Commanders (-18)
In a crowded backfield, Kaytron Allen has done little to give the Washington Commanders any conviction that he can elevate their offense. In his two appearances in the preseason, Allen is averaging a measly 3.48 yards per carry while hauling in two receptions for a total of one yard. Luckily for Allen, rookie RB Robert Henry Jr. has also struggled to find his footing, cementing Allen’s position as their RB3.
Barring an injury, pass on Allen as a late-round flier with Jacory Croskey-Merritt and Rachaad White swallowing up a majority of the carries. In dynasty, stash Allen on your taxi squad if you have the room to do so, giving you the ability to monitor the Commanders' RB situation as the season plays out without having to burn a spot on your bench.
