Kansas City Chiefs vs. Indianapolis Colts Matchup Breakdown For Week 2 Fantasy Football

Indianapolis Colts Fantasy Preview

Indianapolis can’t wait to get back on the field to erase the memories from last weekend’s shellacking at the hands of the Ravens. That game may have ended 41-23, but never felt nearly that close. 

The Colts came out firing on the first drive, with an unhindered Daniel Jones looking very reminiscent of the QB leading an extremely effective offense through the first half of 2025. Had you turned off the game after that first drive where Jones completed five passes for 64 yards, it’d be reasonable to walk away thinking the Colts moved the ball well through the air. You’d also have been wrong.

What followed was a cacophony of drops, errant throws, batted passes, and extremely low target-depth throws. Unable to stop the Ravens whatsoever, game script also played a part. With Alec Pierce limited to only 22 routes, the Colts as constituted don’t really possess any verticality — they’re built on the run game, complemented by high-probability throws underneath to Josh Downs and Tyler Warren. Indy can look completely out of place behind multiple scores.

The question remains whether or not Indy can slow a Chiefs offense that may have hung 31 points on the scoreboard, but did it much differently than Baltimore. While neither QB completed more than 17 passes Sunday, Lamar Jackson threw for nearly double the yardage, so the Colts’ chances of getting blown out early are reduced significantly.

Jonathan Taylor ran well as expected, but the offensive line play will need to improve as they get set to face another intensely physical front seven. You can bet George Karlaftis, Chris Jones, Nick Bolton, and Drue Tranquill would love to help KC get out to a fast start after going winless through two weeks in 2025.

Indianapolis’ widely distributed target tree is going to frustrate fantasy gamers supremely, especially in these tough matchups. I’d imagine Kansas City’s going to load the box and turn up the heat on the Colts right at the line of scrimmage to force more of the wild, off-platform play that got Jones in hot water last weekend. I’m worried the Chiefs' newfound run attack serves as the clock-killing final dagger in Indy’s fantasy hopes.

Get your leather helmets, everyone; it’s Kansas City Chiefs football in the year 2026. Tried to tell everyone for months Kansas City telegraphed their intentions of reinstalling a ground-based attack plan when they signed Kenneth Walker III, and boy does that look like a bullseye.

Against what we thought would be a stout Denver defense, KC imposed their will all over the field, but mostly on the ground. Here’s your Laghezza stat of the weekend: Kansas City’s (+0.29 EPA/rush) wasn’t just first in the NFL; it finished higher than the EPA/pass attempt of 26 other teams! Nerdy, yes, but also crazy stuff …

Obviously Kenneth Walker’s the most auto-start player possible, but after him, I’m scratching my head. Without the need to pass, plus the threat of a phenomenal defense behind them, I envision the Chiefs strangling every clock until we hit an under. 

Look at KC’s wide receiver breakdown to see what I mean. Rashee Rice, Xavier Worthy and Tyquan Thornton combined for 83 routes but only 9 targets and 5 catches for 37 whopping yards. Even with the TD included, the trio failed to eclipse 15 fantasy points as a collective. 

Even old faithful Travis Kelce barely got home (3-71-0) despite solid advanced metrics (19.2% target/route, 2.73 yards/route) due to low volume. Five targets won’t cut it, not in this economy.
