Training Camp News and Updates for Fantasy Football: Will Chuba Hubbard Injury Mean More Touches for Jonathon Brooks?
Justin Carlucci breaks down the latest fantasy football news from NFL training camps, including the latest on the hamstring injuries of Chuba Hubbard, Jordyn Tyson, and DeVonta Smith.
Every day, there is an overwhelming amount of training-camp news, injuries, and depth-chart movement to track. Thursday morning was no different — and boy, were there some headliners.
Hamstrings are suddenly popping up everywhere, so let’s take a look at a few noteworthy developments around the league with serious fantasy football implications for 2026.
Training Camp Updates for Fantasy Football
Chuba Hubbard is Week to Week
Panthers HC Dave Canales said Chuba Hubbard is now considered week to week with a hamstring injury.
More hamstrings.
Jonathon Brooks is reportedly penciled in to start Carolina’s preseason opener and has a chance to seize a larger role. His fantasy football ADP has climbed throughout the summer, especially in best ball drafts, and as of Thursday, he is going around pick 102.1 in consensus formats. If we get more negative Hubbard news, that price could climb even higher by the weekend.
Personally, I would slow down before declaring Brooks a workhorse. Even if Hubbard misses extended time, I do not see a reasonable scenario where Carolina wants to give Brooks more than two-thirds of the team's snaps. He’s an awesome best ball target due to his game-breaking speed.
Brooks had just one college season with 100+ carries and hasn’t sniffed the field as a pro with nine career NFL totes. A 60-40 split may be his generous ceiling, even in a Hubbard absence. Hypothetically, I’d like to think Carolina would bring in another thumper if Hubbard misses real time.
Hubbard’s consensus ADP is 85.0, and this is a situation to monitor closely. If he is healthy, he should still have a major role. If the hamstring keeps him limited or lingers into the regular season, Carolina could bring in another veteran while Brooks’ price continues to rise.
Dwain McFarland has already increased Brooks’ rush attempt and route share in our fantasy football projections, and this will be a backfield to monitor closely to see how Hubbard’s recovery goes. Signs have been positive for Brooks in the offseason, and he’s moved up one spot to RB30 in our fantasy football rankings. Hubbard got bumped down two spots to RB31 in the rankings with the lowering of his projected attempts and route shares. If the hamstring injury lingers closer to the season, there could be a further fall for Hubbard and a possible uptick in Brooks’ rankings and projections.
Jordyn Tyson Leaves Practice Early
Saints rookie Jordyn Tyson left practice early Thursday with a trainer, according to New Orleans reporter Mike Triplett. Triplett added that he had heard “hamstring” and hoped the issue was minor, noting that Tyson had a strong start before exiting.
Tyson’s talent has always been undeniable. His medical history, however, was the biggest concern throughout the pre-draft process. He had hamstring strains in both legs during 2025, and the longer injury history includes a broken collarbone and a devastating left-knee ACL/MCL/PCL injury in 2022.
That is why Tyson’s ADP remains a little volatile despite the massive upside. As of Thursday, his consensus ADP sits at 80.3. That is a fair price for a rookie with this type of ceiling in a Kellen Moore offense, but it also reflects the risk.
The good news? Reports indicated that the New Orleans offense looked sharp overall, and Chris Olave had a big day. But if Tyson’s hamstring issue lingers, it will be difficult to ignore. For now, I would call him a polarizing draft option with a massive ceiling and a shakier floor than most players in his range. Personally, I’ll still gamble on the upside unless we hear some confirmed bad news.
Time to Raise the Panic Meter in Philly?
DeVonta Smith missed his seventh straight practice with a hamstring injury, while rookie Makai Lemon also remained out with a hamstring issue.
At what point do we start raising the panic meter?
For Smith, I'm putting it at a 6.5 out of 10. It is still possible the Eagles are simply being cautious, and that is often the right approach with a veteran during August. But preseason action has started, fantasy drafts are in full swing, and seven missed practices is becoming difficult to brush aside.
Lemon’s absence remains frustrating. He's a rookie who needs every possible rep to learn the NFL game and Philadelphia’s new offensive scheme. Missing extended time does not help his case for carving out an immediate, substantial role.
Hopefully, all of these hammy situations are precautionary. But as we get deeper into August, it’s time to take more stock in these reports and start waving the red flags a little higher.
