Week 8 Fantasy Football Waiver Wire: Joe Flacco, Devin Neal and More Players to Add

Week 8 Fantasy Football Waiver Wire: Joe Flacco, Devin Neal and More Players to Add

Who are the players to add in Week 8 — aka BYE-MAGEDDON? This may be the most important waiver wire week yet. Dive in and get to adding!

IT'S TIME. We've prepared for this moment for the last few weeks. I hope you're ready for … BYE-MAGGEDON!

There are six total teams on a bye this coming week — the Cardinals, Lions, Jaguars, Raiders, Rams and Seahawks. There are definitely good streamer options at quarterback this week. We also did not have major injuries during Week 7 (there were, of course, some possibly harsh ones, but we'll know more after MRIs and all that fun stuff), which was a nice change of pace. My best advice is to always (but this week especially) make sure that when your waivers run you look at dropped players immediately. Sometimes your leaguemates do not plan as well — and that means decent fantasy players could find themselves on the wire as teams need to make room during a big bye week. This is your time to pounce on your leaguemates' mistakes. Pay attention and keep dominating.

All rostership percentages are from Yahoo. Also, don't forget our Waiver Wire Tool, which will have even more targets on a weekly basis.

Week 7 Injuries

  • Jayden Daniels (hamstring)
  • Bryce Young (ankle)
  • Cole Kmet (back)
  • Dontayvion Wicks (calf)
  • Darren Waller (pectoral)
  • Kendre Miller (knee)
  • Mike Evans (collarbone)

Week 8 Fantasy Football Best Waiver Wire Adds

Joe Flacco, QB, Bengals (11% Rostered)

Will we get the Icy Hot Bowl every single week? Probably not, but Joe Flacco has found his cheat code: Ja'Marr Chase (NFL All-Pro Keith Bulluck, who is co-hosting our SiriusXM Saturday show with Marcas Grant for six weeks, was praising Flacco for getting the ball in his playmakers' hands). This Bengals defense is nonexistent which means the game scripts most of the time will lean on Flacco through the air. On Thursday night he threw for 342 yards and three touchdowns and with the weapons he has at his disposal, it isn't a bad bet if you need to stream a quarterback in Week 8, since the Bengals take on the Jets.

Tyrod Taylor, QB, Jets (0% Rostered)

Tyrod Taylor replaced Justin Fields after halftime and while it didn't lead to a win (or even to touchdowns) this might be the direction in which head coach Aaron Glenn will move. Fields completed only six passes for 46 yards and took three sacks in the first half against the Panthers. Taylor isn't going to win you fantasy championships, but it's a move you have to consider in SuperFlex formats. He finished 10-of-22 for 126 yards, but got caught throwing two interceptions. If he gets the start from Glenn, the Jets take on the Bengals in Week 8.

Kyle Monangai, RB, Bears (7% Rostered)

The Kyle Monangai waiver wire writeup has finally paid off! He got a career-best 17.4 fantasy points on Sunday against the Saints and his role is continuing to grow behind D'Andre Swift. He ran the ball 13 times for 81 yards and a touchdown while also adding two catches for 13 receiving yards.

We always figured that Monangai could carve out a role in this offense because of what Ben Johnson did with the Lions. We're not taking it THAT far yet, but Monangai is someone to stash with the potential of having standalone value sooner rather than later.

Monangai, a rookie out of Rutgers, was Thor Nystrom's RB25 in his pre-draft rankings, with a comp of Sincere McCormick. Do with that info what you will!

Devin Neal, RB, Saints (1% rostered)

Kendre Miller has been lost for the season due to a torn ACL, which means a new backup for Alvin Kamara has to be highlighted on the waiver wire. Miller's utilization was a huge reason to hold him, but now we have to see how the Saints use Devin Neal. He only had one touch after Miller went down, but we'll have to see if the Saints give him the same role as Miller had over these last few weeks. Either way it will take time, so Neal is a deep stash play (for now).

Tez Johnson (16%)/Sterling Shepard (15%), WR, Buccaneers

Well, we didn't avoid the injury bug completely on Monday night. Unfortunately, Mike Evans went down with a broken clavicle. The team said he will miss most of the remaining regular-season games, but didn't say it was season-ending. Regardless, it's time to turn to the next guys up. In the Buccaneers' loss they were able to get rookie Emeka Egbuka on the field, but he can't do it alone. I think both Sterling Shepard and Tez Johnson are in play here. Shepard finished with 7 receptions for 25 yards and Johnson had 4 receptions for 58 yards and a score. Johnson played more frequently, but was still rotated out. Let's monitor when Jalen McMillan is expected to return as well.

Chimere Dike, WR, Titans (1% Rostered)

Sometimes teams get an instant bump when they fire their head coach — we saw a little of that with the Titans after they fired Brian Callahan last week.

The leader in receiving yards against the Patriots was Chimere Dike, who caught all four of his targets for 70 yards and a touchdown. It's important to note that Calvin Ridley was out of this game so I think Dike is a stash for deeper formats more than anything else. But crazier things have happened — if this Titans team can turn things around, Dike could hold some value down the line.

Oronde Gadsden, TE, Chargers (3% Rostered)

Was this a breakout game?? It sure did look like it! Even though the Chargers lost against the Colts, Gadsden walked away with seven catches for 164 yards and a touchdown. We have to take into consideration that the Chargers were trailing for most of this game and quarterback Justin Herbert had a season-high 55 attempts, but the usage has been trending upwards and that means Gadsden needs to be on all radars.

According to the Utilization Report, Gadsden had an 88 UR Score in Week 6, so anyone paying attention shouldn't be too surprised by this. Gadsden now has three games within the Top 14 among TEs this season. Here's his Utilization Report game log:

Colston Loveland, TE, Bears (22% Rostered)

It hasn't been pretty for Colston Loveland managers, but Cole Kmet left Sunday's game with a back injury and we know if he misses time that Loveland is the next guy up. He finished with only three catches on four targets for 24 yards, but there's no denying Loveland is worth an add to see what an increased role could look like against a bad Ravens defense.

Brashard Smith, RB, Chiefs (2% Rostered)

Two things can be true when we're talking about Brashard Smith — yes, this was a blowout by the Chiefs, but Smith still holds value on this team. He had some passing work in the first half. Kareem Hunt was shaken up in this matchup and it shows that if either he or Isiah Pacheco went down we would be running to waivers everywhere to pick up Smith. He had 14 carries and five receptions for 81 total yards and continues to be a great stash.

Emanuel Wilson, RB, Packers (16% Rostered)

Josh Jacobs was a close game-time decision, but ultimately played against the Cardinals — and had a big day while doing it. This is just a reminder at how important some of these handcuffs can be. Emanuel Wilson should be rostered in case of an injury to Jacobs (which we don't want to happen, but we have to plan ahead).

Quinn Ewers, QB, Dolphins (0% Rostered)

Before the Dolphins took on the Browns, Quinn Ewers was named the Dolphins' backup quarterback — his first time on the active game-day roster. We saw a little Ewers as the Dolphins were getting blown out by the Browns and he totaled five completions for 53 yards. This is mainly advice for SuperFlex leagues to stash Ewers —who knows what could happen if Mike McDaniel gets fired? Or if he just thinks it's time to move on from Tua?

The Other Guys

  • Michael Penix, QB, Falcons
  • Justice Hill, RB, Ravens
  • Jalen Coker, WR, Panthers
  • Luther Burden, WR, Bears
