College Football Parlays for Week 5: Bet on a Get-Right Game for Tennessee
Kody Malstrom highlights three college football parlays for Week 5, including the Tennessee moneyline against Auburn.
Even though Tennessee fell just short against Texas, the Vols are still in contention for the SEC title, yet the margin for error moving forward is minuscule. Luckily for Tennessee, the Vols will have a great opportunity to get back up off the mat with a matchup against Auburn, making them one of my favorite pieces to add to the parlay card heading into Saturday.
College Football Parlays for Week 5
Reminder: in order to win your wager, every leg of the parlay must cash or else the bet as a whole will be graded as a loss.
Cincinnati +7/Tennessee ML (+164, DraftKings)
While all eyes were on the Vols' offense with a true freshman under center, the defense has quietly been the most productive unit on the field, heading into Week 5 ranked in the top 40 in success rate, explosiveness, finishing drives, and havoc. By holding opponents to early outs, the defense can mask Faizon Brandon’s growing pains, keeping them competitive enough to win on a weekly basis.
In a favorable matchup against Auburn, expect the Vols to keep the Tigers out of scoring position for a majority of the contest by taking advantage of an offense that resides in the bottom half of the board in success rate and pass play PPA. With Byrum Brown incapable of taking care of the ball, the Tigers' QB will be vulnerable to committing a turnover while warding off the Vols' pressure, spotting Tennessee generous field position to help run up the score.
Later in the night, Cincinnati will be locked into a fast-paced track meet with Arizona while exploiting a defense that ranks near dead last in explosiveness. By forcing the Wildcats' LBs to pull to the middle in an attempt to neutralize the Bearcats' explosive ground game, JC French IV’s passing lanes on the outside will widen, making it easier to stay ahead of the sticks.
Minnesota Alt +10.5/North Carolina Alt Team Total u14.5 (+121, DraftKings)
In Bryce Underwood’s best game of the season, Michigan was unable to put away Iowa, losing to the Hawkeyes at the last second. Unfortunately for Underwood, he draws another tough defense in a matchup against Minnesota, battling it out against a group that ranks sixth in havoc. With Underwood struggling with turnover-worthy plays, the Gophers will be able to create disruptions at a high rate and stall the Wolverines out to help cover the spread.
After completing just 43% of his passes in a loss to Clemson, Billy Edwards will continue to struggle to air out the ball against Notre Dame with the Fighting Irish secondary ranking 26th in pass PPA. With Notre Dame’s secondary holding its own in coverage, the Fighting Irish can blitz the second level at a higher rate, giving the defensive line more bodies at the line of scrimmage to help neutralize the run.
Mississippi State ML/Kentucky ML (+567, theScore Bet)
Correlating this bet with this week’s best bet on Mississippi State’s team total, the Bulldogs will be able to exploit Alabama’s struggles on defense by throwing over the top of a secondary that ranks 125th in pass explosiveness. When in scoring position, expect points to be put up on the board, setting a scoring pace too fast for the Crimson Tide to keep up with.
Like Mississippi State, Kentucky has also exceeded expectations, climbing into the top 20 in success rate and in finishing drives. With South Carolina giving up over five points per opportunity when backed up into the red zone, the Wildcats will be able to capitalize on scoring opportunities, improving the probability of securing the upset.
