A Guide To Parsing Through The Risks In 2026 Fantasy Football Drafts
In today's Fantasy Life Newsletter, presented by Xfinity ...
While you were ducking for cover as the fuses ran out this weekend, I stayed indoors to finally start reading Dungeon Crawler Carl.
Carl is this random-ass dude who gets caught in his underwear during an apocalypse, and now he is trying to survive an 18-level dungeon.
"What does this have to do with fantasy football, Cooter?"
It actually has everything to do with fantasy football. Ever heard of a metaphor? Just hear me out! Damn!
As I was saying … to help Carl on his journey, he has a user interface that provides succinct, yet informative, summaries about basically everything and everyone he encounters. Threat levels? Rewards available? You name it.
Without these guides, he'd be dead. Gone. Game over.
That's when I realized … We are all Dungeon Crawler Carl.
We're random ass dudes just trying to survive the 18 levels of our drafts (16 if you're waiting for redraft leagues in August).
With each round, a new set of challenges comes our way (e.g., snipes, risky players, injury designations, bad QB play, etc). And let's be honest, you're probably drafting your best ball leagues in your underwear, too.
But we also have a life-saving UI: Fantasy Life's Draft Guide. It's not just a page of succinct information; it's a f*cking cheat sheet to help us through the dungeons of our drafts, dude!

When I'm staring down a mob of third-round players like Breece Hall, Malik Nabers, Josh Jacobs and Rashee Rice, I don't have time to parse out all of their risks on my own. And even if I did, my intelligence rating is similar to Carl's … so I need all the help I can get.
I can quickly see that Nabers, Jacobs and Rice are not going to offer me security. If I want to play it safe as I head into the deeper levels of my draft, I need to take someone like Hall: A man free of warning signs and traffic cone indicators.
But if I inspect even further, I see that Rashee Rice is a Level 4 Goblin.
High risk, high reward.

Everyone agrees Rice is risky (pour one out for our former colleague, Ian), and they’re all warning of the dangers that lie ahead.
This could end really badly for you.
But if you decide to take Rice on and you survive … well, you could walk away from your season with a ton of loot boxes fantasy points, and a championship trophy.
Just remember: The Draft Guide doesn't tell you how to play the game. It's your in-house information system, defining the risks and rewards to come.
It's up to you to decide your path, Carl.
Me? I won't be taking on multiple risks in my drafts (Sorry, Rice & Brandon Aiyuk).
These guys would really threaten my chances of survival. And I'm just trying to make it to the end …

Surviving The Bell Curve
Speaking of risky plays, did you know that five NFL franchises don't have a single player inside this season's top-50 rankings?
Not a single one. Oof!
This week, I pushed my glasses up as high as I could in an attempt to do my best Dwain McFarland impression. I crunched the numbers, and I left with some key lessons from the data that emerged.
Lesson 1: Five teams stand out from the rest in a terrible, no good, very bad way.
Lesson 4: I absolutely HAVE to get a piece of these four teams before my drafts end:
- DAL
- CIN
- BAL
- LAR
Want to survive your drafts? First, you've got to survive the Bell Curve.

Your Dynasty Questions … Answered
I know that I like to brag about my championship title in the Fantasy Life Dynasty League. And I won't stop bragging anytime soon …
But I need you to know that Jake Trowbridge, the only leaguemate to almost dethrone me, is a MF'in dynasty guru.
This guy lives and breathes dynasty (for your benefit).
Jake is the most active man in our trade offers. He's constantly trying to find his way back to the top, where I currently still reside (never let them forget™ ). But more than that, he's kind enough to share all of his dynasty guru goodness with you:
- What's the long-term value of RBs like Chase Brown?
- How should you handle Malik Nabers?
- Is there a comp for Malik Willis' ceiling?
I know I'm the champion and all … But I constantly find myself wondering: What would Jake do?

Will Garrett Wilson Take Off With All The Targets?
He was off to such a great start. Then injury hit Garrett Wilson, and the Jets’ lost season followed. Will he get back to being an elite target earner with Geno Smith back in Gotham? Ian and Dwain close out their team preview series with the New York Jets. Make sure to subscribe to the Fantasy Football Is Life YouTube channel to catch every episode. ⤵️
