Seattle Seahawks vs. Arizona Cardinals Fantasy Football Matchup Breakdown For Week 9
John Laghezza breaks down the NFC West clash between the Arizona Cardinals and the Seattle Seahawks for fantasy football.
Seemingly without warning, the 2026 fantasy quarterback carousel entered full mid-season swing as two backups suddenly pair up in the PNW for an NFC West showdown. Not often does a second-stringer get spotted with a double-digit spread, even if it’s on the road, especially when facing a rival fresh off a huge road-underdog OT win.

Arizona Cardinals Fantasy Preview For Week 9
Arizona may have dropped five of six, but two halves of some truly rotten QB play against Dallas spelled Jacoby Brissett’s final curtain under Mike LaFleur. Not like the Cardinals turned toward a youth movement in Gardner Minshew, but it got the job done in the interim. Granted, his 19.5-point breakout (188-3-0) highlighted the downside of one of football’s worst secondaries, but the question remains — What can we expect against the diametrically opposed Seahawks? My answer’s a resounding little to nothing …
Over the last four years, Minshew’s treated us to utterly replaceable QB play (-0.03 EPA/dropback, 83.3 passer rating, 6.3 yards/attempt) featuring a negatively lopsided TD:INT ratio (1.3). I say it all the time, but at least he understood the assignment in relief, funneling at least +65% of all targets, yards, and air yards to the duo of Trey McBride plus Michael Wilson. Hang onto the big two as weekly starts — they could somehow find themselves the subject of even heavier targeting without Kendrick Bourne in the lineup. Outside that? Run for the hills …
All it took was a slew of simultaneously occurring injuries to get former top free agent signing Tyler Allgeier to full potential. Better late than never for the former Falcon, who gained 191 scrimmage yards Sunday in the most productive game of his career. Fellow RB Bam Knight, who looked good in his own right, still hasn’t practiced (concussion) and, even if he does suit up for limited work, will likely work firmly behind Allgeier. Again, achieving a true ceiling is going to be a massive mountain to climb against a top-5 run -stopping unit by all observable metrics (0.15 EPA/attempt, 23.4% stuff rate, 3.5 yards/carry, 0.57 yards before contact/rush, 4.7% explosive rush rate) — but obviously, we can’t let it stop us from chasing so much projectable volume.
- Start: Tyler Allgeier (RB17), Michael Wilson (WR26), Trey McBride (TE3)
- Sit: Gardner Minshew (QB28)
- Sleeper: Elijah Higgins (TE39)
Seattle Seahawks Fantasy Preview For Week 9
Sam Darnold took the beating of a lifetime versus the new-look Bears on Monday, and though finishing the game must’ve felt in the morning. I personally saw reports of a cracked rib that Seattle’s now labeling a quad injury — regardless, Darnold’s out Sunday. Luckily for the Seahawks, they take a lateral move to Drew Lock, one of the better backups in the game. Remember, we got a taste of Lock the first two weeks of the season, where he put numbers anyone would be more than happy to sing onto: 0.37 EPA/dropback, 72.9% completion, 4.2% off-target, 127.3 passer rating, 8.8 yards/attempt. Giddy up.
To absolutely no one’s surprise, the key to Lock’s success (see what I did there) rested on the hyperutilization of all-world wideout Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Not only did JSN score 68.7 fantasy points in a two-game stretch, but the advanced stuff also breaks all spreadsheets: 44.0% target/route, 5.54 yards/route, 103 air yards/game. Generally known as a strict one-man show, leave a nightlight on Rashid Shaheed as a deep streamer — he acted as Lock’s next option and secondary focus in SEA’s valued play-action game.
As an industry-wide conductor of the preseason Jadarian Price hype train, this feels like an all-time bad runout. Talk about miserable timing. Between injuries, rookie acclimation, and now the return of incumbent Zach Charbonnet, Price feels blocked even if he’s the most explosive RB in the room currently. The newly formed duo dominated +95% of the touch share between them, with a slight edge to Charbonnet for the Week 8 goal-line role. With that, neither crushed it carrying the ball, and there’s still a non-zero chance either George Holani or Emanuel Wilson sees an uptick in action. Hold onto a bench spot, but know starting any of these RBs comes with massive downside risk.
