Buy, Sell, Hold for Fantasy Football Week 8: Underperforming Fantasy Stars Edition

Cooterdoodle breaks down players to buy, sell and hold in fantasy football leagues ahead of Week 8, including Chase Brown, Nico Collins and Justin Jefferson.

No one is panicking enough.

So, this week is going to be different. Here are a few guys we should be nervous about. Depending on what your fantasy football team needs, there are scenarios where each of these players is worth buying, holding or selling.

Context matters.

Buy, Sell, Hold for Fantasy Football Week 8

Chase Brown | RB | CIN

  • Panic Meter: Mild

I get it. You want your RB to find the end zone. But just like my husband looking for ketchup in the fridge, Chase Brown cannot seem to find it (even when it's right in front of his face).

"It's right there, sweetie! Behind the pylon! Did you even look??"

"See… What did I tell you? Semaje Perine found it."

But despite Brown's six consecutive scoreless games, there are some factors that make me less panicked than his box score would imply.

He's a simultaneous Buy/Sell/Hold candidate.

Factors to consider:

  • Buy: You can easily find analysts who will argue that Brown is a "buy-low" right now. If you want the reasons, they're abundant.
  • Sell: Your leaguemates have also seen the plethora of "buy-low" arguments. They're willing to buy.
  • Hold: Brown's schedule thus far has not been easy. He's still the workhorse in Cincinnati. And the second-half strength of schedule for the Bengals goes from rough to "easy peasy."

Takeaway: If you have a very interested buyer and you're not willing to "wait for the TD regression" to hit, move on. But if you've made it this far and your win/loss record can handle it, hold for a brighter future. Chase will find the ketchup.

Nico Collins | WR | HOU

  • Panic Meter: Medium

If you've rostered Nico Collins in 2026, you've been disappointed. Other than the two weeks where he looked like a top-10 WR:

  • Week 1: 7-75-1 (yay)
  • Week 2: OUT
  • Week 3: OUT
  • Week 4: 7-118-2 (yay)
  • Week 5: 5-56-0
  • Week 6: 3-74-0
  • Week 7: 2-6-0
  • Week 8: BYE

If you're too panicked, sell now or forever hold your peace.

With the Texans on bye in Week 8, you need to decide if you're holding or selling now, not later. It does not benefit you to hold him through his bye week and waste a roster spot if you intend to sell him before Week 9.

But if you can manage to hang on, hold on. Because Collins hasn't lost his juice.

Factors to consider:

  • Sell: His name value is still worth something. This is the WR1 in HOU, after all.
  • Hold: The Texans' offense has the power to sustain him. Stroud has thrown 250+ in all but two games, both being the only two games where he completed fewer than 20 passes. And despite his low stat line, Collins ran the most routes amongst Houston WRs in Week 7 (24).
  • Buy: Collins has a niceeee playoff schedule (WAS, JAX, PHI, GB)
  • Sell: Marvin Harrison Jr. was added to the team recently. We're still seeing how he factors into the offense. If you're spooked: Run.
  • Buy: Collins still projects as a low-end WR1.

Takeaway: Is the rest of your roster strong enough to handle some down weeks? Does someone in your league believe in Collins more than you and they're willing to pay up for it?

Whatever you decide… Do it now, not later.

Justin Jefferson | WR | MIN

  • Panic Meter: Mild-Medium

Justin Jefferson is yet again a simultaneous Buy/Sell/Hold player.

It's not like Jefferson has been a dud this season. But the inconsistency has been difficult to digest.

  • Week 1: WR3
  • Week 2: WR40
  • Week 3: WR73
  • Week 4: OUT
  • Week 5: WR15
  • Week 7: BYE
  • Week 8: WR36

Factors to consider:

  • Sell: The Vikings are ranked near the bottom of the league in both yards per game (29th) and TDs (T-24th). The Vikings don't need to be more productive on offense when their defense is carrying them to victory every single week.
  • Buy: Minnesota's schedule opens up for Jefferson soon, when they face DET, BUF and GB Weeks 8-10. They're also facing DET (yes, again) and WAS later down the stretch.
  • Hold: We know that Jefferson is an elite talent. He just needs to get the ball in his hands.

I'm holding. Dwain McFarland is holding/buying. And your leaguemate… Hey, maybe they're selling?

Buy, Sell, Hold Speed Round Week 8

That's enough panic. Here are a few speed round players.

  • Omar Cooper: Few data points. Small sample size. It's the Jets (derogatory). AD Mitchell is back. I don't think he gets cheaper as the season progresses. Buy.
  • Josh Jacobs: Packers RBs have been insanely unproductive this season. Despite only carrying the ball 11 times for 36 yards in his return, Jacobs was successful through the air. It's too late to buy (but try anyways).
  • Tyler Shough: I get it. The Saints can't run the ball to save their lives. Shough is a little banged up. And yet, look what he's managed to do with no help (four top-eight QB fantasy finishes). Coaching changes are coming in New Orleans and maybe things will improve around Shough, elevating what he's already doing. (Note: New Orleands is on Bye in Week 8.) Hold.
