Week 7 Fantasy Football Injury Report: Puka Nacua, Emeka Egbuka, Garrett Wilson and More
Adam Ronis and Jorge Martin decipher the Week 7 injury report with fantasy football implications, starting wihte Puka Nacua and whether he'll play Sunday against the Jaguars.
Puka Nacua? Emeka Egbuka? DJ Moore? Marvin Harrison Jr.? Seriously? If you have any of these players on your team, it'll be a tough go of it to get to the fantasy football playoffs if they miss any period of time. Starting with Week 7. We still have no defined answers, but we'll be keeping an eye on the statuses of these players and if they either can play or we'll have to keep an eye on if they'll sit multiple weeks. Such is fantasy football midway through the second week of the season. Here is our injury report: Updates will come starting Friday afternoon.
Week 7 Fantasy Football Injury Report
Quarterback
Kyler Murray (Arizona Cardinals)
After logging a pair of limited practices to start the week, Murray appears like he’s on the way to starting in Week 7. He may be limited in his passing corps (see below), and he’ll need to have two healthy feet as the Cardinals face the Packers and Micah Parsons this week. Green Bay is allowing just 16.4 fantasy points, good for 10th fewest in the league. UPDATE: Murray was limited in all three practices. No official word on his game status has been announced. Keep Jacoby Brissett on your bench in superflex leagues.
Brock Purdy (San Francisco 49ers)
Purdy has missed four of the past five games, and he’s logged a pair of limited practices as he recovers from his toe injury. Does this mean he’ll start against the Falcons’ top-notch pass rush. Friday’s practice report will tell the story of if Purdy will play. UPDATE: Purdy is out for Week 7. That's now five games missed. Mac Jones, come right down. Jones has passed for over 340 yards in each of the past two weeks, so he could be a good streamer in a game that has shootout potential. Though the Falcons are allowing the fourth fewest fantasy points to QBs.
Running Back
Blake Corum (Los Angeles Rams)
Corum was upgraded to LP on Thursday, making it appear that he’ll be playing against the Jaguars in London. The second-year RB has a season high of 11 touches in Week 4, so if you’re playing him the hope is that he’ll fall into the end zone. That has happened just once in six games. UPDATE: Corum is healthy, but expecting him to do more than vulture a TD may be asking too much. He has scored just once this season.
Emari Demercado (Arizona Cardinals)
Demercado played three snaps last week before leaving with an ankle injury. He didn’t practice on Thursday and even if he plays, he shouldn’t be in lineups. The backfield will be split with Bam Knight and Michael Carter.
Chuba Hubbard (Carolina Panthers)
Hubbard has missed the last two games with a calf injury and Rico Dowdle had 234 and 239 yards, respectively, from scrimmage in his absence. Hubbard was limited in practice on Thursday, which would indicate he’s on a path to play. Coach Dave Canales hinted the duo would split touches. Here’s where the Fantasy Life rankers have Dowdle and Hubbard. UPDATE: Hubbard is healthy, and HC Dave Canales said he's named a starter at RB, but won't make it public.
Wide Receiver
Josh Downs (Indianapolis Colts)
Oftentimes on Wednesday, we find out about players dealing with injuries we had no clue about. Downs is that player this week. He is dealing with a concussion and didn’t practice on Thursday. Even if he’s able to practice, he needs to clear the five phases of the NFL concussion protocol. UPDATE: Downs was ruled out with a concussion on Friday. That's a tough blow considering that his play volume has increased. This is an upgrade for Michael Pittman and possibly Tyler Warren, though the Chargers are No. 7 in fewest fantasy points allowed to tight ends. Tough to have a player sit when it could be a high-scoring game environment.
Emeka Egbuka (Tampa Bay Buccaneers)
Egbuka left last week’s game with a hamstring injury and the expectation is he will miss multiple games. Egbuka hasn’t practiced all week. The Buccaneers have a bye in Week 9, so there’s a chance we don’t see Egbuka until Week 10. UPDATE: Egbuka was limited in practice on Saturday after no practice the previous day. It's coming down to a game-time decision with the rookie sensation. If you're planning to roll the dice, have one of the Bucs WRs in reserve. Or someone else playing on MNF. Not ideal.
Mike Evans (Tampa Bay Buccaneers)
Evans has missed the last three games with a hamstring injury and returned to practice on Thursday. With the Buccaneers playing Monday night, it was a good sign to see Evans put in a limited session for the first day of their week. The expectation is Evans will play, but make sure he’s locked in before waiting until Monday. Or have a backup plan with either one of his teammates or another player in the MNF doubleheader. UPDATE: Evans was also limited on Saturday and is a game-time decision Monday night. What was said above for Egbuka applies for Evans.
Marvin Harrison Jr. (Arizona Cardinals)
MHJ was ruled out during last week’s game with a concussion, and he’s logged a pair of limited practice sessions to start the week. We’ll be keeping an eye on this situation, as the Cardinals’ WR corps is pretty banged up otherwise. UPDATE: Harrison cleared the concussion protocol, so he will start. The Packers have gotten beaten up by George Pickens and Ja'Marr Chase the past two games, so a healthy Harrison could be a good play this week.
CeeDee Lamb (Dallas Cowboys)
Lamb is back at practice after missing the last three games with a high-ankle sprain. Lamb said he could have played last week, but waited another week so there will be no limitations. He won’t be limited against Washington. Get him back in your lineups. UPDATE: He's healthy, thank the heavens! Fire him up in a great offensive environment.
Terry McLaurin (Washington Commanders)
McLaurin has missed the last three games with a quad injury and was limited in practice on Wednesday. Then McLaurin didn’t practice on Thursday. Friday will be important for McLaurin’s status. UPDATE: McLaurin was ruled out for the fourth consecutive game, which is a shame because the Cowboys have been described as the "Coors Field of the NFL" by Ian, and that's especially the case on the fast track in Dallas. Deebo Samuel is going to get more targets if he's fully healthy. Luke McCaffrey, as much as many would want him to become a thing, still ran a route on just 37% of plays this past Monday night and hasn't reached 50% in any game with McLaurin out. Look for Zach Ertz to get plenty of looks, as he had a 26% target share against the Bears.
Jakobi Meyers (Las Vegas Raiders)
Meyers is down with a knee injury and has yet to practice. That seems to be happening quite a bit in Vegas. If Meyers misses (same with Brock Bowers), it’ll be extra tough sledding in KC this week. UPDATE: Meyers is questionable and could play. He's the best target earner for the Raiders if Bowers sits, and the Raiders could need to pass some against the Chiefs. Meyers could be a flex play.
DJ Moore (Chicago Bears)
After missing Wednesday practice with a groin injury, Moore was limited in practice on Thursday. There have been few details on the extent of the injury after Moore was hospitalized following Monday night’s game. UPDATE: Moore is healthy, which is the good news. What is less so, he has yet to draw more than 5 targets in a game this season. Rome Odunze has overtaken Moore as the top dog in Chicago, so fantasy teams needing to start Moore because of byes or injuries may need to rely on him scoring a touchdown. Tough to expect that, as he's scored just once this season. The Saints are middling pass defense, allowing 33 fantasy points per game.
Puka Nacua (Los Angeles Rams)
Nacua didn’t practice again on Thursday with an ankle injury and is unlikely to play. The Rams play in London and have a bye next week. If Nacua is out, Davante Adams will get a lot of targets and Jordan Whittington becomes a solid play. Tutu Atwell missed last week with a hamstring injury and his status is still up in the air. UPDATE: Puka has been ruled out. Brutal loss for the Rams offense and for London spectators wishing to finally see some good football overseas. This is a player drawing nearly 11 targets a game and at a 32% target share with a UR score of 91. You don't replace those players. Luckily, the Rams have Adams on the roster, and he could see his target share jump up from an already-great 27%. The Jaguars are third in the NFL allowing 165.8 receiving yards to WRs. Adams is the alpha and will get fed, while Whittington is the secondary play. Atwell is just a dart throw that he'll catch a long ball like he did on the 88-yarder against the Colts in Week 4.
Ricky Pearsall (San Francisco 49ers)
DNPs to start the week after missing two weeks in a row does not bode well for Pearsall playing this week. Be prepared for him to miss another week. UPDATE: Pearsall was ruled out on Friday. More on the 49ers attack below.
Calvin Ridley (Tennessee Titans)
Ridley left Sunday’s game with a hamstring injury and hasn’t practiced the first two days of the week. It’s highly unlikely Ridley will play this week. Elic Ayomanor and Van Jefferson will benefit, but both are more deep-league plays. UPDATE: Ridley was ruled out, and has two more games before the Titans' bye week. Hard to trust any of the Tennessee pass catchers now that the Patriots have a healthy secondary.
Deebo Samuel (Washington Commanders)
Samuel missed another practice with a heel injury. Samuel hasn’t practiced often the last few weeks and still has played. Samuel had good games in Weeks 4 and 5, but struggled last week with 4 catches for 15 yards and didn’t look good. The matchup is ideal against Dallas. The Cowboys allow the most fantasy points to wide receivers. UPDATE: Can we not have nice things for the Commanders? Deebo has been ruled out, so with McLaurin that's a major chunk of the passing game's target share. Zach Ertz should rise up the rankings and let's see if Luke McCaffrey gets more than a 48% route rate. Chris Moore is also a dart throw worth making against this Dallas D.
Darius Slayton (New York Giants)
Slayton injured his hamstring in Week 5 against the Saints and missed last week’s game. Slayton didn’t practice on Thursday. Slayton is likely to miss this week’s game.
Garrett Wilson (New York Jets)
Wilson has missed the first two days of practice with a knee injury. The expectation is Wilson could miss multiple games and the Jets have a Week 9 bye. Prepare to be without Wilson. The Jets don’t have receivers that command the ball, so expect tight end Mason Taylor and Breece Hall to be relied upon heavily. UPDATE: Wilson did not practice all week and is listed as doubtful. We can pretty much bank on him sitting this week. Taylor could be a sneaky play going up against the No. 2 defense allowing the most fantasy points to TEs in Carolina.
Quentin Johnston (Los Angeles Chargers)
Some good news here. After being limited last week and then missing the game, Johnston was saw a full practice on Thursday. He’s being reinserted in a game where the Chargers-Colts have a 48.5 over/under and the Colts are allowing the second-highest fantasy boost to WRs.
Tight End
Brock Bowers (Las Vegas Raiders)
The Raiders are on a bye next week and Bowers has yet to practice. That’s as good an indication as any that he’s going to sit. All we want is for Bowers to be healthy and playing like the TE1 that he is. UPDATE: Even with his returning to a limited practice, Bowers is doubtful to play against the Chiefs on Sunday. With the bye coming next week, the Raiders might just be cautious with the franchise player and sit him. Keep an eye on the inactives. The Chiefs are fifth in fewest points allowed to TEs, so Michael Mayer may not be a good option this week.
David Njoku (Cleveland Browns)
Njoku left last week’s game with a knee injury and didn’t practice Thursday. Njoku is one of the toughest players around and Friday will be key for his status. If Njoku is out, Harold Fannin Jr. becomes a great play against the Dolphins. UPDATE: Njoku was ruled out, so while many think this could be Fannin's time, the weather may not cooperate for much passing.
George Kittle (San Francisco 49ers)
In the MASH unit that is the 49ers roster, Kittle is the ray of hope that he might return from a hamstring injury after he practiced on a limited basis in both sessions to start the week. After Kittle got hurt in the opener, he went on IR and has not taken the field since. Atlanta is the stingiest defense against the TE in the league, but this is George Kittle. If he’s playing, you’re starting him. UPDATE: We can have nice things after all. Kittle will play and is not expected to be on a pitch count. With so many 49ers pass catchers out, this could be a heavy target share going Kittle's way on Sunday. Even in a tough matchup, Kittle could be a target hog this week.
