Let's get into the Week 6 WR edition of Freedman's Favorites, where I highlight guys I'm upgrading because of …

  • Favorable betting factors and situational spots
  • Advantageous defensive matchups (perhaps aided by injury)
  • Increased usage expectations (again, maybe aided by injury)

Week 6 Matchup Upgrades: Matthew Golden vs. Cowboys & Tre Tucker vs. Bills

There are a few "flow chart" defenses so bad that they provide automatic upgrades to whatever WRs they face. If a guy is playing one of them, I aggressively move him up my ranks. If not, I carry on.

Based on the numbers I see in our Fantasy Life DvP (Defense vs. Position) Matrix as well as RBs Don't Matter and FTN, the Cowboys and Bills are two of the biggest flow chart defenses for WRs.

  • Cowboys: No. 32 in defensive dropback EPA (0.382) and pass DVOA (49.3%)
  • Bills: No. 1 in largest fantasy boost allowed to WRs (+9.1)

Bang a gong.

Matthew Golden (Packers) vs. Cowboys: The setup isn't perfect for Golden. The Packers could be without three OL starters: RT Zach Bako-Bewele (knee, IR), RG Jacob Monk (quadriceps) and LG Aaron Banks (toe). Additionally, the Cowboys have three extra days off after Thursday Night Football. But also … it's the Cowboys, who have traveled more than any team over the past month (11,434 miles) and yield an amplified home-field advantage to the Packers because they're outside division, on grass (vs. turf) and outdoors (vs. indoors). It's just a bonus that the Cowboys in the back seven could be without LB DeMarvion Overshown (hamstring), CBs Joey Porter (illness) and Decobie Durant (hamstring), SS Jalen Thompson (hamstring, IR), and No. 3 S P.J. Locke (foot, IR). And as for Golden himself, I think he's still underappreciated. He hasn't been as productive as No. 1 WR Christian Watson (19.3 fantasy points per game, 26-474-6 receiving, 40 targets vs. 13.3 fantasy points per game, 24-397-2 receiving, 44 targets with 1-6-0 rushing), but his usage has been comparable (85% route rate, 25% target share, 38% air yard share, 33% end zone target share vs. 84% route rate, 22% target share, 32% air yard share, 40% end zone target share, per our Fantasy Life Utilization Report), and across the league he's the No. 3 WR in air yards (623). This is absolutely a smash spot.

Tre Tucker (Raiders) vs. Bills: A glance at Tucker's game log over the past few years reveals him to be a true boom/bust merchant (9.8 yards per target). Example: This year he has one game with more than 20 fantasy points and four games with fewer than 6.5. But within a Raiders offense that's better than expected (No. 9 with 26.4 points per game), he could have relatively more booms this season, including this week: He's in an exploitable spot indoors at home against the Bills, who are on a one-day deficit off Monday Night Football and playing their second straight West Coast road game. Tucker has a shot to see 10+ targets without WRs Jalen Nailor (concussion) and Jack Bech (forearm, IR), and the Bills are No. 28 in defensive pass DVOA vs. No. 1 WRs (23.0%).

Week 6 Scoring Upgrades: Davante Adams vs. Cardinals & Mike Evans vs. Commanders

Sometimes upgrades are as simple as: "This team is going to score a lot of points, so I need to bump up the WRs."

This week, the Rams are No. 1 in implied team total (32.5 points); the 49ers, No. 3 (29.0).

Upgrades warranted.

Davante Adams (Rams) vs. Cardinals: I have a fever, and the only prescription for it is more Davante. Literally every week this season I've highlighted Adams as a favorite. Given that he was one of my 2026 fantasy favorites before the season started, I'm at least being consistent. With the return of No. 1 WR Puka Nacua in Week 4, Adams has an admittedly lower ceiling than he had without Nacua in Weeks 2-3 (23 targets vs. 16), but over the past two weeks he still had good usage (89% route rate, 27% air yard share, 57% end zone target share, 72 Utilization Score), which he has leveraged into respectable production (12.4 fantasy points per game, 9-83-2 receiving). And his setup is great: 1) The Cards are No. 31 in defensive dropback EPA (0.370). 2) They're without No. 1 CB Will Johnson (neck, IR) and might not have FS Andrew Wingard (knee). 3) They're on their third road game in four weeks. 4) The Rams are on their second straight home game. 5) HC Sean McVay has historically done well in division (35-23-1 ATS, 16.4% ROI, per Action Network).

Mike Evans (49ers) vs. Commanders: The Commanders have traveled more than almost any other team over the past month (10,944 miles), whereas the 49ers are on their fourth home game in five weeks. Additionally, the Commanders are No. 4 in largest fantasy boost allowed to WRs (+4.3). No. 2 WR Deebo Samuel (hamstring) exited last week with an injury, and in his absence Evans had his best game of the season in both production (22.8 fantasy points, 7-113-1 receiving, 10 targets) and utilization (76% route rate, 36% target share, 65% air yard share, 50% end zone target share, 92 Utilization Score). If Samuel is out again, Evans should dominate. He's creeping toward WR1 territory.

Week 6 Indoors Upgrades: Drake London vs. Bears & Josh Downs vs. Titans

In general, I want to be heavy on WRs playing indoors, where they don't need to worry about wind, temperature or precipitation. Here are two such WRs who stand out.

Drake London (Falcons) vs. Bears: This is my third consecutive week to highlight London as a fantasy favorite, which is basically another way of saying that I like London when he has QB Michael Penix throwing to him. Although Penix (ribs) exited last week early, I tentatively expect him to play this week, and in his three games with Penix this year, London has gotten the production (17.1 fantasy points per game, 21-408-0 receiving, 27 targets) and the usage (99% route rate, 36% target share, 52% air yard share, 89 Utilization Score). The Falcons have a boosted home-field advantage because the Bears are outside division, on turf (vs. grass), and indoors (vs. outdoors), and the Bears could also be without three defensive starters in EDGE Dayo Odeyingbo (quadriceps), LB T.J. Edwards (hamstring), and CB Tyrique Stevenson (hamstring).

Josh Downs (Colts) vs. Titans: I want to be clear about this. I'm not a Downs stan. For years, I've thought he's overrated. And I believe we've seen evidence of that over the past three weeks without No. 1 WR Alec Pierce (heel, IR). Even though Downs has finally been a full-time player in that span (89% route rate), he has been utterly mediocre (6.5 fantasy points per game, 11-140-0 receiving, 21 targets, 56 Utilization Score). And the home-field advantage for the Colts softens in this spot because the Titans play in division on a similar turf surface. Not great. But at least the Colts are indoors, and they're facing the Titans, who are No. 31 in defensive pass DVOA (42.9%) and just last week allowed the 0-4 Texans to put up 26 points. What's more, the Titans could be down three secondary starters in CB Cor'Dale Flott (chest), SS Amani Hooker (concussion) and FS Kevin Winston (quadriceps). If you're a sicko (and we both know you are), you might be able to get away with starting Downs in Guillotine LeaguesTM this week.

Week 6 Air Yards Upgrades: Chris Olave at Giants & Denzel Boston vs. Ravens

The WRs who are targeted downfield (the guys with high aDOTs, air yard shares and WOPRs) have an elevated chance each week of enjoying a spike performance.

You can see aDOT, air yards and WOPR in our Fantasy Life Air Yards Tool. "WOPR" stands for "weighted opportunity rating," and it measures the overall quality of a player's aerial role in his offense by considering his share of targets and air yards.

Here are two air yard accumulators who have my attention this week.

Chris Olave (Saints) at Giants: I'm not saying I'm an oracle, but last week I listed Olave as a fantasy fade, and he easily had his worst performance of the season (6.6 fantasy points, 4-46-0 receiving, 6 targets), and that's despite having his typical elite usage (93% route rate, 26% target share, 54% air yard share). This week, though, I expect a bounce back. For the season, Olave has balled out (15.8 fantasy points per game, 39-537-1 receiving, 54 targets, 93 Utilization Score) and is the No. 1 WR in air yards (708). I like the idea of him going against a Giants defense without EDGE Brian Burns (knee, IR) and CB Paulson Adebo (knee, IR).

Denzel Boston (Browns) vs. Ravens: Look, I pretty much plan to lock Boston into this section each week until his play drops off. I've been pleased so far with the rookie (12.2 fantasy points per game, 16-330-3 receiving, 29 targets). His usage specifically has impressed: He's the No. 3 WR in the league in air yard share (48%) and No. 6 in end zone target share (56%). With injuries to RB Quinshon Judkins (foot) and WR K.C. Concepcion (concussion), the Browns might lean on Boston all the more against the Ravens, who are on their third away game in four weeks and have traveled more than almost any other team over the past month (11,076 miles), whereas the Browns are home for the third time in four weeks.

Week 6 Offensive Injury Upgrades: Xavier Worthy vs. Chargers & Germie Bernard at Buccaneers

Here are a couple WRs who get upgrades because of offensive injuries.

Xavier Worthy (Chiefs) vs. Chargers: WRs Rashee Rice (hamstring) and Tyquan Thornton (ankle) both suffered injuries in Week 4, which resulted in Worthy having his most complete game of the season (9.0 fantasy points, 4-70-0 receiving, 7 targets). The Chiefs should be fresh off the bye, but there are reasons to be pessimistic: They've had the league's No. 3 worst home-field advantage over the past five years (-0.61, per NFElo), and it doesn't get a boost hosting the division-rival Chargers, against whom Patrick Mahomes has notably struggled (4-8-2 ATS, -31.0% ROI). Plus, we tend not to see many points in general at Arrowhead Stadium: No QB has been more profitable to the under at home than Mahomes (50-30-1, 19.7% ROI). Still, Worthy could see an increased workload without Rice and Thornton, and the Chargers could be without CB Donte Jackson (hamstring) and SS Derwin James (hamstring) in the secondary.

Germie Bernard (Steelers) at Buccaneers: The setup is terrible. The Bucs have a three-day edge coming off Thursday Night Football, and this is their fourth game in five weeks at home, where they have an amplified advantage because the Steelers are outside division and conference. But last week, with No. 2 WR Michael Pittman (foot, IR) already out, both WRs Roman Wilson (finger) and Ben Skowronek (leg) exited early with injury, and in their absence the rookie Bernard had his best game of the year, both in production (11.4 fantasy points, 6-80-0 receiving, 9 targets with 1-4-0 rushing) and utilization (94% route rate, 29% target share, 45% air yard share, 82 Utilization Score). With Wilson doubtful and Skowronek uncertain, he could once again be a primary pass catcher for QB Aaron Rodgers. If available on waivers, Bernard is the top pickup of the week.

Week 6 Defensive Injury Upgrades: Garrett Wilson at Patriots & Nico Collins vs. Jaguars

Here are a couple WRs who get upgrades because of defensive injuries.

Garrett Wilson (Jets) at Patriots: I'm not saying I want to bet on the Jets … but divisional road underdogs tend to be sharp (730-626-37 ATS, 4.5% ROI), and although the Pats have had the league's No. 2 HFA over the past 16 games (+9.90), the Jets have cut home-field advantage for the Pats down to the core because they play in division on a similar turf surface in a similar outdoor stadium. The setup is good, and Wilson could see an unreal amount of work if RB Breece Hall (quadriceps), WR Adonai Mitchell (finger), and TE Kenyon Sadiq (concussion) are out. Last week as the focal point of the offense, he went off (19.9 fantasy points, 7-104-1 receiving, 11 targets, 97% route rate, 41% target share, 53% air yard share, 100% end zone target share, 93 Utilization Score). Perhaps best of all, the Pats could be without … CBs Christian Gonzalez (shoulder), Carlton Davis (neck), Charles Woods (shoulder), Karon Prunty (hamstring) and Channing Canada (hamstring). That seems like a lot of guys.

Nico Collins (Texans) vs. Jaguars (in London): The Jags have a significant travel edge in that they're playing their second straight game in London, whereas the Texans are flying there this week (league-worst 4,200 miles). Even so, I like Collins, who absolutely destroyed the Jags in two games last year (17.8 fantasy points per game, 15-240-1 receiving, 26 targets) and has been his typical studly self since returning from injury two weeks ago (17.7 fantasy points per game, 12-174-2 receiving, 15 targets). The Jags could be without CB Montaric Brown (hamstring) and FS Eric Murray (concussion).
