Grading the Jaguars NFL Draft

Jacksonville Jaguars | Draft Grade: A

Thursday’s Round 1 turned into a more tepid affair on the whole than we thought we were going to get—with the Jaguars’ stunning trade up to No. 2 to take Travis Hunter being a notable exception.

Jacksonville’s new administration traded Nos. 5, 36, 126, and a 2026 first-rounder to Cleveland for Nos. 2, 104 and 200. Using trade charts, many have argued that the Jags overpaid. I’m here to tell you they got a bargain.

Travis Hunter would have been the WR1 or CB1 in this class if he were isolated to either position—the Jaguars just got a star-caliber starter at both spots, which were acute areas of need heading in.

RB Bhayshul Tuten is an Isiah Pacheco clone with breakneck speed and a breakneck style. His 4.32 40 matched the time of De’Von Achane, and Tuten outweighed him by 18 pounds. Tuten's vertical and broad jumps were both 96th percentile. Tuten is a home run hitter who finished No. 8 in the FBS in breakaway yards last fall.

Tuten’s hard cuts in space at high speeds make him a tough target to square up. Tuten runs low to the ground and is fearless, building up to a speed-to-power element that snaps arm tackles early in runs and usually leads to extra yards at the end of them. Tuten’s biggest question as a runner is ball security—over the past two seasons, he fumbled nine times.

Travis Hunter Fantasy Football Value

Ian Hartitz: Landing with Liam Coen and Trevor Lawrence in Jacksonville is certainly a better outcome for Hunter than joining the Browns, although the presence of Brian Thomas Jr. certainly caps the target ceiling. Luckily, it sounds like Jacksonville wants to feature Hunter on offense first and defense second, meaning something close to a full-time receiver role should be on the table. Full confirmation could lead to top-20 treatment at the position, but for now I'm exercising just a bit of caution and leaving the reigning Heisman Trophy winner as a borderline WR2 in the same tier as fellow talents with a bit more target competition than we'd prefer like Marvin HarrisonDK Metcalf, and DeVonta Smith.
